Activities at Westwood House Care Home

As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.

It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Liz Wickers

Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.

I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Quando! Quando! Quando!

Our thanks to Peter once again for keeping us thoroughly entertained this afternoon.

Peter has become a firm favourite here at Westwood House and the residents always ask when he is coming back.

Thank you to our wonderful families and friends for joining us.

Oh! And there is no one that can Quando, Quando, Quando quite like us!

Valentines Love!

Such a beautiful day filled with fun, laughter and most of all love. We hope your day has been as beautiful as ours. Thank you to Daniel for entertaining us and filling our hearts with joy. A good sing song and a boogie certainly lightens the soul. After all the energetic fun, we made valentines puddings. Lots of fruit and of course chocolate to tickle our taste buds.

Westwood House has celebrated the love today as we always do.

Chinese New Year 2024

All ready for Chinese New Year at Westwood House. The Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring festival and has been celebrated in China for thousands of years. We have made and decorated lanterns, which was great fun. We will be holding a quiz and trivia afternoon for the residents and offering them a ‘Red Lucky Envelope’ as a token of our very best wishes.

As a very diverse community we embrace and value the differences that make each one of us special and unique and to have the chance to celebrate other cultures is a wonderful way to come together.

Advice and Support Morning!

Such a pleasure to welcome Jim and Anna from Community Connections Lewisham today. Many of our residents took the opportunity to have a chat find out what’s going on in the local area.

They are a great source of information and the residents came away feeling very positive. Two of our residents have already booked up to join weekly social groups, which they are very excited about.

As much as we are a very busy and social bunch here at Westwood House, it’s always good to make new friends and enjoy new experiences.

Flower Arranging

We spent the morning flower arranging. Using the flowers as a sensory tool, we talked about the colours (Purple being the favourite) and we enjoyed smelling the different scents (the white ones got the vote)

Scents can evoke so many memories and we shared some great stories of gardening fun and mishaps. Our wonderful arrangements are now pride of place on Memory Lane.

Westwood House Rocks!

Such a fabulous and fun filled afternoon here at Westwood House. Daniel came to entertain us and sing us songs from so many great artists. We boogied to Barry Manilow, we danced to our socks off to disco and we absolutely were Dancing Queens to Abba.
