Activities at Westergate House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Lee Austin

Head of Lifestyles

My name is Lee and I am the Head of Lifestyle here at Westergate House.

I support our residents daily to do the things they enjoy and it is extremely important to me that we are offering a premium and person centred service to each resident. I support our residents on a daily basis by providing meaningful and quality activities either in groups or on a 1:1 basis, to help encourage and build confidence while creating an enjoyable environment for everyone. Westergate House is the home of our residents, we as staff are working in it, so it is extremely important to me that we are respectful of that, while offering a premium and person centred service to each and every resident.

I am a trained actor and professional vocalist and not shy in making a fool of myself. If I do that every day to put a smile on our residents faces then I’m happy I have played my part, along with the rest of the amazing team, to brightening their day. If you hear someone singing along the corridor or see them dancing in the lounges, it will probably be me.

Life at Westergate House Care Home

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Residents really enjoyed supporting Macmillan Coffee Morning at Nina’s community hall in Barnham. We met up with lots of our friends, including those of the canine variet. We each had lots of raffle tickets and won lots of prizes. All in all, it was a super morning spent raising money for a very worthy cause.

Cockney Luncheon

Both residents and staff enjoyed our ‘Oliver Twist’-themed cockney luncheon, with pie, mash and liquor, home-made by our very own chef, Eric.

This was followed by a good ol cockney sing-along with Tea 4 Two. It turned out to be one of our best-attended and most enjoyed afternoons.

Pallant House Art Gallery

Residents enjoyed the trip to Pallant House Art Gallery, where they were looking at the work of artist Grete Marks and experimenting with clay.

Artist Helen Peters was on hand to guide us in using a range of tools to build form and texture to create an individual clay relief portrait.

Time Flies

We said our goodbyes to the lovely Alicja, after 12 years of service at Westgate, she will be a hard act to follow, with the sense of fun, quizzes, crafts and baking, not to forget the Word Wheel that some people took great delight in discovering rare & little used English words! She will be very much missed.

We also say Hello to Christopher who joined the activities team, an experienced activities coordinator who only has been with us a few weeks and is clearly demonstrating a strong sense of humor and sensitivity when needed.

The crew was diverted to Tangmere Airfield, on the 5th attempt to land the bomber, it crashed into a hanger, all crew members were killed.

Celebrating 10 Years

Congratulations to Chris Cannon, who has been at Westergate for 10 years. Chris is our Head of Maintenance and has seen a lot of changes during his time here. Chris’ skills are second to none; he is a master at all maintenance tasks, spreads a smile amongst the residents and entertains the staff with his humour and positive outlook.
