Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Waterside Court Care Home

Supporting the community with Cholsey Volunteers

Waterside Court had the pleasure of working with Cholsey Volunteers, who were set up to help the elderly, vulnerable and those in need during these unprecedented times.

Our Home Services Advisor enjoyed a morning out dropping off food parcels to local residents and having door-step chats to check they were OK. The recognition of this year’s toll on the elderly and vulnerable is something Waterside Court and Cholsey Volunteers share, so both are eager to work together in the New Year to enhance the lives of others and support people in the local community.

Cholsey Volunteers offer a variety of support services to the community including dropping off food parcels, doing prescription runs, shopping and phone support. The initiative is coordinated by Cholsey Day Centre, COPA, Cholsey’s Older Person’s Support Worker, Cholsey Parish Council and St Mary’s Church.

With such a fantastic array of volunteers and local groups involved, we look forward to support their valuable work in 2021!

Dementia Friendly Communities

Waterside Court have been running virtual Dementia Friends information sessions!

We are committed to making Wallingford and surrounding villages Dementia Friendly Communities, where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported. This incredible work pioneered by the Alzheimer's Society has been even more important this year with people facing isolation and loneliness.

If you would like to become a Dementia Friend, or are part of a group/organisation you'd like to make Dementia Friendly, please get in touch with us. We'd be delighted to have you on board!

More Heroes! #ThankYouNHS

We were busy again, out and about delivering boxes of Heroes to local healthcare professionals today. We popped in (safely!) to see Wallingford Medical Practice, Mill Stream Surgery and Wallingford Community Hospital, who all greeted us with incredible spirits. Healthcare professionals have been absolutely phenomenal this year and we were happy to be able to spread some Christmas cheer.

We can't wait to work closely with these amazing teams in the New Year! #ThankYouNHS

Heroes for our Heroes! #ThankYouKeyWorkers

Waterside Court have been busy thanking fellow key workers in the community for all of their hard work this year.

We spent the day delivering boxes of Heroes and Barchester Goody Bags to numerous key workers, including local pharmacies, Waitrose and local businesses in Wallingford. These frontline workers have faced incredible challenges this year, so we were more than happy to offer some Christmas cheer and gifts. We are thrilled to say that not only did these goodies go down a treat, we also formed some incredible connections within the local community!

We are very grateful to Sam and Alex at Waitrose for offering their support with any events or initiatives Waterside Court hold and we look forward to working closely with them in future. Here's to a fulfilling 2021!

Waterside Court's First Christmas!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at Waterside Court!

The team have been busy getting the Marketing Suite decorated for the festive season. We are eagerly awaiting the Christmas art competition entries from local primary schools to complete the festive look.

We’ll be collecting artwork on Thursday 17th December, so follow us on Facebook to have your vote: @BarchesterWatersideCourt

Making Wallingford Dementia Friendly

Waterside Court are striving to make Wallingford and the surrounding communities Dementia Friendly. We have been busy making contact with the local community, including Wallingford Town Council, to help support us with this goal.

Wallingford Town Council gave our Home Services Advisor the opportunity to speak at the full council meeting on Monday 7th December. We are thrilled to say that they have agreed to help us with this very important cause!

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.

With the pandemic affecting people’s abilities to socialise and connect with their local community, creating this network of understanding is more important than ever.
