Activities at The Warren Care Home

Here at The Warren, our activities team are always very busy thinking of new ways to keep residents active, both physically and mentally. We have regular trips out in the minibus, both locally and further a field, including the London Eye and the Thames River Trip), at least once a week during the summer months. We also enjoy visits from PAT dogs and have professional exercise sessions and live entertainment, which are always popular.

Kirstie Tifrani

Activities Coordinator

My name is Kirstie and I am lucky enough to be the Activities Coordinator here at The Warren.

I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities and leisure and lifestyle roles.

I love being part of The Warren team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the importance of residents' input into our weekly planner is important giving all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous interests and hobbies.

Halloween Fun

To mark the spookiest day in the calendar, we wanted to get all staff, residents and the community involved. We all had a great time decorating the home, held a pumpkin carving competition and the residents had a great time judging them all and having a spooky time.

From 'Trick or treat' with our Activities coordinator, to a 7m giant spiders web coving the front of the home, Halloween was just a hoot.

Well done to the management team for winning the carving contest, with the care team coming 2nd and kitchen 3rd.    Also very well done to Lily who won the community competition, she was just over the moon with her prize.

National Colour Day

National Colour Day is celebrated on 22 October, so what better way to mark the day than to flower arrange. We had a fantastic choice of colours and the ladies loved it.

We carved out a pumpkin to use as a vase and made a beautiful display to show off in our reception area. We had so many flowers over we ended up getting four more vases worth, these really do brighten up the home. They are now all proudly displayed in the dining room, the lounge, reception and the conservatory.

Thank you to Una, Jean, Alma, Audrey and Francis for your great work and Happy National Colour day.

Play Your Card Right

Today we played the old game show “Play your cards right” when we all remembered how to play it, we had a great time. We split the residents into team so they worked together conferring about their team answers with John and Ray being the head of the teams.

Ray, Eva, Audrey, Pauline and Joan were the Red team with John, Una, Jean, Alma and Francis being the Blue team. There was lots of laughing about the quiz questions, debating about higher or lower than the next card and generally having a great time.

Well done to the Red team who won with £900, they won a tin of biscuits to share.

Armchair Exercise

To finish our week of activities, we ended it with armchair yoga. The residents enjoyed it very much!

A very big well done to Thelma for doing “The Tree”, with the help of a walking frame to steady her—she did amazingly!

Harvest Festival

We engaged the residents with making tea light holders to enhance our Harvest Festival display.  We bought some Epsom salts and glitter, painted jam jars with PVA glue and them rolled them in the glitter and salt. We lit them with fake tea lights and it really set off the display; the lounge looked very cosy.

Dye cast cut fairies were also used to decorate the tea light holders. Residents who completed this really enjoyed this activity and were so happy with how impressive the effect was. We added them to our Harvest festival display and we think they look amazing.

Betty is a very accomplished artist, so we used one of her pieces of work to also show off her talents. We think she’s very talented indeed. Thank you, Betty, for letting us use your work.
