Activities at Tyspane Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

World Dog Day

Staff and residents at Tyspane enjoyed celebrating World Dog Day on Monday 27th August, when we hosted our 4th annual dog show.

This year’s dog show featured nine entertaining categories, including 'Waggiest Tail', 'Scruffiest Mutt', 'Best Junior Handler' and 'Noisiest Mutt', amongst others.

'Best in Show' was chosen by residents and staff, and was awarded for the second year running to Bronson, the French Bulldog, owned by the Abi Quaintance.

'Best Junior Handler' went to Jamie Townsend and his dog Jasper. His Swiss Shepherd impressed the crowds with his tricks.

6 year old, Diane Widgery, melted everyone’s heart and won second place in the 'Best Junior Handler' category. She did, however, win the 'Best Puppy' category with 11 week old Tinkerbelle.

It was a fun-fulled day, despite the weather.

World Chocolate Day

On Saturday July 7th, the residents at Tyspane experienced a chocolate bonanza! We displayed chocolates from around the world, from the dark chocolate from Ecuador and Venezuala to sweet chocolate with peanut butter from America. We also had a selection from Germany, Belgian, France and of course Switzerland. We also had a chocolate fountain and fresh stawberries and it all went down like a treat! Perfect morning before settling down to watch the England game!

Alpacas visit

Spending time outside during the summer months is essential to our resident's well-being but what could make being outdoors even better? Well a visit from some Alpaca's seemed to do the trick, they came on a sunny day in July! They managed to visit just about everyone, they came indoors too, much to the delight of residents who were not able to go out.

Three Cheers for Anais

Three Cheers for Anais

We celebrated the work of our youngest volunteer recently; at only 13 years of age, Anais Davies loves joining residents during events and helping out at the home on weekends. Inspired by the dedication of the staff at here, Anais has plans to become a physiotherapist when she gets older.

She recently helped us to make a massive cake in recognition of the Queen's birthday. To make this 28kg (4.5 stone) Victoria sponge cake, Anais baked 19 sponge cakes, used 57 eggs, 4lbs of butter, 4kg of fondant, 4kg of icing sugar and 1.5 kg of fresh strawberries. It took Anais and her volunteers 30 hours to design the crown, bake the sponge cakes and decorate it.

Seed Planting

Seed Planting

With this beautiful weather we have been having, Tyspane has started a seed planting club. We are growing flowers and vegetables as well as herbs, which we will eventually use in our kitchen.

Residents enjoy talking about their gardens and exchanging tips whilst getting their hands dirty again. Seeing their plants growing every day is also very rewarding.
