Tyspane Care Home in North Devon

Tyspane is a purpose-built care home home that provides high quality residential and 24-hour nursing care for older people, alongside younger adults with multiple sclerosis or physical disabilities. We also offer an intense rehabilitation programme for people with a wide variety of conditions on a long or short-term basis.

Our multidisciplinary rehabilitation team consists of professionals, including nurses, healthcare assistants, a physiotherapist and a visiting GP, who provide a holistic, person-centred approach based on working towards identified individual goals. Our individualised approach to care is reflected in all aspects of our home, including our cooking, hospitality and organised activities.

Tyspane Care Home is located within walking distance of the old village of Braunton and close to the glorious beaches and rugged countryside of Exmoor. The home is set within its own beautifully landscaped gardens, situated on the North Devonshire coast with panoramic views across the Taw Estuary.

We think you’ll find we’re ideally suited to meet your specific needs, so please feel free to drop in or give us a call to discuss how we can help you.

Types of care

Here at Tyspane Care Home, we provide person-centred nursing care services for older people in need of support. It is important to us that our care services are delivered in a way that celebrates each person’s individuality and helps them to maintain as much independence as possible, so we tailor our services to meet the unique needs of each person. This could include personal one-to-one time with staff members when needed, regular visits from a chiropodist or just adhering to special dietary requirements. Our current rating of 9.1 on carehome.co.uk shows just how pleased residents and loved ones are with our care services.

Our Team

The dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care to each individual living at the home.

Sara Maynard

General Manager

Hi, my name is Sara, and I am the General Manager here at Tyspane. Welcome to our website!

Nursing has been my life for over 35 years! I trained in Cambridge in the early eighties and have worked for the NHS in general practice and in the private sector. My passion has always been to provide the best service for all and give people a voice. I had a particular interest in respiratory medicine and led a community respiratory service for North Devon, at the time being very involved with the British Lung Foundation.

I have been a registered manager for three different homes since 2010, having a particular interest in empowering residents to lead a full and happy life.

I was born and bred in North Devon and have worked here for the majority of my working life in the local community or in the local hospital. My family live in Braunton and I am thrilled to be joining Tyspane and working with people and healthcare professionals that I have known and respected for a long time.

Barchester has given me the opportunity to deliver the best care and services in such beautiful surroundings. I am excited to be working with the team to offer the highest standards of care to our aging community.

Babs Spear

Physio Assistant

Babs was previously the Head of Activities & Physiotherapy here at Tyspane, but now works only as the Physio Assistant.

Her main interests are keeping fit and she spends a lot of her spare time as a fitness instructor, holding various classes around the local community.

In 2016, she was awarded the 'Devon Best Practice Award' for her flexicise class. She owns our three 'paper dogs' – her three Maltese – who deliver papers with her in the morning.

She is band 4 in physio and really tries to make residents' days fun; she very much believes in the 'if you don’t use it, you lose it' mentality, so she always encourages residents to participate, regardless of mobility concerns, because everyone is able to do something!
