Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Happy Birthday Paddington Bear

Our residents enjoyed an afternoon with Cargilfield Nursery celebrating Paddington Bears Birthday.

With lots of Bear antic and a tea party to celebrate with the Bear himself, it was a fabulous afternoon. And of course it wouldn't be his birthday without marmalade sandwiches!

Show us the way to go home...

Our resident trip out to the Kelpies took a detour today. Whilst travelling on route the conversation turned to pints of heavy and antics as youngsters in their local pubs.

So the boys requested a exit junction left and we were off to The Hawes Inn in South Queensferry to enjoy a pint and chat instead. How lovely to hear their stories of how they met their wives and the diverse lives they have led. And all washed down with a choice of their favourite tipple.

Our residents are soley at the heart of our activities and so when they asked to go to the pub instead, we ensured their afternoon wish was fulfilled!

Kindness in the community

Thankyou to everyone who donated to our collections for our local churches with their harvest festivals. St Columba and Cramond Kirk were delighted and reassured us that this year they will be given to the most in need

Today St Columba sent two beautiful flower displays to our residents to say thank you for their kind donations.

Resident engagement within our community is so important and enables us to play a big part ensuring our residents have a sense of belonging outside Strachan House as well as inside.

World Animal Day

What a wild day.. exactly how it should be. To celebrate World Animal Day we invited our Cool Creatures back to Strachan House due to how popular they are with our residents.

What better way to learn than with a handling session whilst learning about some of the animals we share our world with.

With Pongo the skunk, Brave the Meerkat, Acorn the Tenric, Hefty the Burmese Python and Sid the bearded dragon being a big hit with our residents we all had a fun filled afternoon sharing a wee cuddle and selfies with the gang.

In Memory of Her Majesty The Queen

To celebrate our Majesty, Olive Duncan a resident at Strachan House wore her medals for the day in honor of our Queen.

Olive said: “I can still remember the Coronation, how young the Queen looked.  She dedicated her entire life to serving us all and worked right up until the very end. She did us proud – we couldn’t have asked for a better Queen.  I feel as though I have known her my whole life, she will be very much missed.”

In Honour of Her Majesty the Queen

Our residents said goodbye to our Queen in their own special way. Throughout the 10 days of mourning our residents have reminisced, shared memories and created floral displays and a book of condolences ready for yesterdays final farewell.

To pay our respects we turned our lounge into a peaceful and reflective space where residents, relatives and staff could be together and immerse themselves in the coverage of the state funeral.

Afterwards we had the option of lunch in the dining room or a wonderful wake buffet in our lounge to which everyone enjoyed.

What a solemn day it was. But the sense of togetherness at Strachan House was beautiful and a moment that will be remembered for a long time to come.
