Activities at Station Court Care Home

Residents at Station Court have been making the most of the warmer weather exploring our beautiful county on our mini bus.

From coastal trips to South Beach enjoying fish and chips with panoramic views and walks along the promenade to the famous beach huts taking in the sunshine and sea air with ice creams. To countryside picnic parties enjoying singing and dancing to live entertainment and tucking into sweet and savoury picnic treats at events at Plessey Woods country park and West Sleekburn gardens. We are spoiled for choice in Northumberland.

Residents, staff, families and friends at Station Court care home came together in the home’s garden, popped on their blue suede shoes and got all shook up with the Number one Elvis Presley impersonator in the North East, Mike Memphis performing everyone’s favourite hits from the king of rock N’ roll to sing a-long and dance to bringing joy and laughter to all.

Everyone enjoyed Elvis themed summer refreshments of PB ice-creams, doughnuts, and sipping on ‘Blue suede’ and Hound Dog’ mocktails.

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

For those joining everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Staff and residents at Station Court care home were delighted to welcome labour MP Ian Lavery for the Blyth and Ashington constituency into their home for a tour.

The local MP explored the care home’s new garden that has been transformed by green fingered residents, family members and staff discussing the work that has gone into it and future plans with members of the resident gardener’s club.

Born and bred in Ashington, alike many of our residents they enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane together reminiscing of Ashington from Pit days to present day life in our town over summer refreshments. Before taking a full tour inside the home’s upgraded interior since the last time he visited. Meeting staff and residents along the way and discussing what life is like at Station Court.

The Great British weather may not of been on our side but that did not stop us getting out in our community! Our car enthusiasts at Station Court had a great day visiting Woodhorn Museum classic and vintage car rally hosted by the NECPWA Club – The North East of England Classic and Pre War Automobiles.

Viewing cars from the 1930s onwards and discussing with their owners. Our gents were all delighted finding their very first car they owned and sharing stories of days spent on the roads.

They explored the museum afterwards taking a trip down memory lane through coal town, reminiscing on days down the mines, the pit strikes and Ashington history

Staff members at Station Court took part in a range of challenges raising funds for the homes charity of the month: SSAFA Northumberland - Armed Forces Charity.

The care home’s garden was full of laughter as staff members took part in sports day themed challenges with residents and family members joining to cheer on the teams of red and blue from the side-lines and resident referee Rita on hand as staff members competed in games of sack race, tyre roll, beanbag balance, hula crawl, speed run races and the classic egg and spoon race then battled it out in a game of tug of war – well done to the blue team on a clean sweep victory!

Afterwards local children took part in mini games and challenges, bringing joy to us all.

A brilliant day was had by all in aid of a great cause, The event along with a family and friends picnic party and community coffee morning and pop up sale carts held throughout the month took the grand total raised to £113.50 which will be donated to SSAFA Northumberland – Armed Forces Charity.
