Activities at Spen Court Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Blackburn

Head of Activities

My name is Angela and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Spen Court. I get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness.

We feel it is important to build community connections and maintain our resident’s social interaction outside the care home.

We ensure we deliver a person-centered program of events and activities and build strong relationships with our residents, their families and friends.

Christmas day celebrations

Barchester’s Spen Court got in to the Christmas spirit as they counted down to Christmas with an array of activities and events as part of the homes life enrichment programme.

The homes Christmas day party was in full swing with festive foods, carol music and games, and the exchange of presents. Residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s hospitality team.

'Tis the season to be jolly!

Barchester’s of Spen Court care home have been in the Christmas spirit by throwing a themed party, hosting a virtual carol concert and many more fun-filled activities in the countdown to Christmas, even welcoming a special guest – an Elf who brought a smile to all!

General Manager, Sarah Sykes said: “We endeavoured to give each of our residents something that they could really be excited about in the run up to Christmas and have had lots of treats for the people who live here. I am pleased that we could hold these fun filled activities, it is clear that everyone has really enjoyed the fun throughout the month!”

Hamper Donation

A beautiful gift hamper was donated to the staff from the lovely family of one of our residents. Thank you!

Food Donation

Spen Court donated food items to the Bramwell Community Project, which is led by Tanish Bramwell.

Tanisha is the Community Coordinator for Kirklees Council, and is the co-founder of the Bramwell Sports & Development team in Dewsbury.

Food donations were brought into the home by staff members, family and friends of the home. All donations were stored within government guidelines before being distributed out..

Tanisha and her team are out in the community all hours of the day trying to make the area a nicer place to live.

The food items donated have been gifted onto people who are in need of a little extra support during these difficult times.

Contact with our community

At Spen Court we feel so blessed to have such an amazing support network from our community with the local church, interest groups and community all supporting us and it is now that the support we have received has shined brighter than ever as our Residents have received lots of lovely letters, cards and pictures and each day we look forward to reading them.

Minnie and Mickey come to town!
