Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Groups are starting back up

Residents at South Grange are very happy that our community link groups are starting back up again after the well-deserved festive break.

We were given a nice warm welcome back to Songs and Memories at Monifieth and South Angus Church for an afternoon of singing. We all agreed no one had lost their beautiful singing voices over the break.

Snow Day at South Grange

Residents and staff weren’t keen to venture out into the snow this year. So we decided to stay cosy in the café area with a mug of hot chocolate. We spent the afternoon reminiscing about our younger days when it would snow. We spoke about what kind of clothes our mothers knitted for us to keep us extra cosy.

We can’t wait for it all to melt away!

Welcome back Grange Nursery

This morning we gave the Grange Nursery children a big welcome back after their Christmas break! We were all delighted to hear that Santa had been good to them all.

They read us their weekly book ‘There’s a bear in my chair’. Followed by joining in with their singing and learning the Makaton signs to go along with them.

Bringing back an old favourite

Residents at South Grange were delighted to see that an old favourite was back on our programme this week. We had an enjoyable afternoon of laughter and fun as we played Balloon Badminton. Both teams were very competitive in trying to get the ultimate win. Here’s to the next game!

Big Quiz of the Year

Staff and residents from South Grange Care Home, joined fellow keen quizzers from over 250 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to put their collective general knowledge to the test.

General Manager, Catherine said: “We’ve got some excellent quizzers at our home, we are very competitive - our residents love taking part in anything where winning is involved and collectively their general knowledge is pretty phenomenal!”

Margaret, resident at South Grange said: “It has been a lovely afternoon. It was wonderful to see everyone in all the other homes joining in. I really enjoyed getting together with my fellow residents to take on the other homes – it is amazing how competitive everyone gets!”
