Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Barchester's Big Bingo Bonanza

South Grange took part in the Barchester Big Bingo Bonanza which took place on 27th February 2024 where we got super competitive and took on our sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was a dab hand at bingo.  It was eyes down for a full house as the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.

Well Done to Maureen who won us our first 3 points in the league by shouting Bingo for a full house!

Residents join Bingo Bonanza

Staff and residents joined fellow keen dabbers from over 250 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to compete in the biggest game of bingo Barchester has ever seen!

The inaugural Barchester Big Bingo Bonanza took place on 27th February 2024 when South Grange got super competitive and took on its sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was a dab hand at bingo.  It was eyes down for a full house as the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.

Much loved Care Assistant retires after 20-years

After more than 20 years of continuous service at South Grange Care Centre in Monifieth, much-loved General Assistant, Lorna Megaw has decided to retire. Staff and residents at the home sent Lorna off in style with a big tea party for her last day where she was presented with beautiful flowers, cards and much more. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Lorna and she will be sadly missed.

During her time at South Grange, Lorna started here as a Carer where she stayed for more than 15 years before moving onto a different department in the home and becoming a General Assistant, which she also loved. Lorna said: “South Grange is like a family to me and though I’m looking forward to retirement and spending more time with my family, I’m really going to miss everyone here!”

Happy Valentine’s Day

Our home was filled with flowers, cards, balloons and decorations as we celebrated the day of love in style with sweet treats and gifts.

We marked the day by inviting some of our residents and their loved one for a romantic valentine’s lunch prepared by our chef Bernard.

Our other residents had the opportunity to taste delicious themed sweets and chocolate strawberries, prepared by Bernard, whilst listening to all-time favourite love songs.

It was a lovely day and it was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get involved with the day’s festivities.

Pancake Day

We were busy celebrating Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, with a variety of delicious pancakes and yummy toppings.

Our residents had a wonderful day, filled with pancake-inspired activities, they prepared homemade pancakes and decorated them with fresh fruit, berries, syrup and chocolate.

It was a fun day, enjoyed by all.

Real Bread Week

We marked the annual, international celebration of real bread and the people who make it. We had a great afternoon tasting different types of breads. From tiger, cheese and seeded. With a selection of toppings to alongside them from butter, jam and marmalade.

Apart from tasting the delicious breads, our residents learnt interesting facts about the history of bread and watched videos about the magic of bread making. Alongside talking about their own memories of their families making bread when they were young.
