Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Emma Powers
Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.
I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.
I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Tea for two!
Two of our residents opted for their own little afternoon tea yesterday. They had a lovely cup of tea and bun while chattering away and watching the birds from our lovely conservatory.
Meanwhile some of our other residents enjoyed the lively music and singing in our main lounge from our entertainer Andy.
Keeping active
Our residents have been busy keeping their minds and bodies active. Mental and physical stimulation is key to heathy wellbeing. Arm chair exercises and mind quizzes have kept them very busy!
Mother's Day
Residents at Barchester Healthcare’s Sherwood Lodge care home, in Fulwood, celebrated Mother’s Day with visits and video calls from family members near and far. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting for the occasion.
Staff at Sherwood Lodge arranged beautiful flowers, a selection of wine, delicious cakes, wonderfully dressed tables with romantic music playing in the background. The scene was savoured by residents and relatives alike. Head chef, David prepared a special high tea of scones, chocolate eclairs, fancy cream cakes and a variety of sandwiches to mark the day.
General Manager Tracy Lyons said “We’ve all had a really lovely day. It has been so good to see family members spending quality time with their loved ones. Our residents enjoyed a fantastic lunch and then a delicious afternoon tea prepared by our brilliant chef David. Days like these are so special.”
Historic Royal Palaces
Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session. Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!
We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.
Virtual Book Club
We had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.
Century celebrations
Celebrations have been in full swing at Sherwood Lodge as one of its residents reached her centenary in style. Resident, Marie Livesey was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the King in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef, Josh Danson
