Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Emma Powers

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.

I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.

I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Coffee Morning

Our residents love going to the coffee morning each Tuesday at our local Evangelist Church. Our residents really enjoy meeting up with members of the local community, as well as our sister home Sherwood Court, for a good old natter over a hot cuppa, cake and biscuits.

Fitness Session with Angelica

At Sherwood Lodge we were joined by the lovely Angelica from G Fitness and Well Being .

Angelica visited the home and provided some armchair fitness for our residents, helping them to keep their bodies stimulated and supple.

Angelica came armed with ribbons, soft balls and some amazing music to get us all moving in our seats.

15 Years of Service

Congratulations to our 2nd chef Nanaki who was presented with her 15 year service award today.  Nanaki started working at Sherwood Lodge in 2008 as a kitchen assistant. Nanaki has now progressed to 2nd chef, making delicious home cooked meals for our residents.

Throughout her 15 years Nanaki has worked hard to get to where she is today, we are all so grateful to have you on our team. Thank you Nanaki for your dedication, here’s to another 15 years.

Residents enjoy chinese banquet

Our Residents spoke and we listened! Residents said they would like a themed dinner and that’s exactly what we provided....with a Chinese restaurant style evening. Residents have got involved and busied themselves over the last week making Chinese lanterns and decorations while our head chef David planned a special Chinese menu, and it has been a huge success this evening.

From chicken noodle and sweetcorn soup and spring rolls to Chinese chicken and beef and peppers in oyster sauce, served with rice, noodles and Chinese style vegetables, and of course prawn crackers. It has been so successful we will be hosting a different themed evening each month.

Eyes down for themed bingo

Some of our residents have “bingo’in” mad for our animal bingo this week.

Eyes down for a full house!!

A little ray of sunshine

Even though it’s been hot outside this week, we’ve had a little ray of sunshine visiting inside Sherwood Lodge this week.

Little Renea-Rae came to spread some happiness and put smiles on our residents faces for the afternoon. Who could say no to some baby therapy?
