Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Do you like good music?

We certainly do and so do our residents.

Today we had Ian in the home performing and filling the air with songs and music from all eras. We had a good old sing song and our residents and staff's dancing shoes were firmly on.

90th Birthday Celebrations

Doris hit a milestone birthday in April. Doris became 90 years young and has celebrated with her lovely family, residents and staff.

Doris was so rightly spoilt with gifts and a homemade birthday cake. A special day for a special lady.

Pamper and Games

We spent the morning with the lovely Sofiya pampering our residents with hand massage, manicures and nail painting.

Residents enjoyed one-to-one time being pampered while having meaningful conversations, which means a lot.

The wonderful Swapna and Matthews then headed some physical activities. Simple ball games to encourage focus and coordination and velcro darts promoting concentration and hand eye coordination.

Music in Mind

Al from Music in Mind entertained our residents communally and went the extra mile by going round to residents' rooms individually for that person-centred touch.

Music therapy can help improve cognitive and physical health, and reduce feelings of isolation and depression. It also helps with motivation for movement and suppleness.

Karaoke!

We have had an array of activities over the weekend to keep our residents entertained.

It was like being on The Voice with some karaoke and everyone enjoyed their time on the mic. Hazel and Tom sang the classic 'I can't help falling in love with you' by Elvis Presley brilliantly.

Christine, as always, enjoyed a dance or two with a staff member, Amber. Brenda and Ellen enjoyed some time knitting. And last but not least, we had arts and crafts with Lauren.

Phew.... there was definitely a well deserved brew after all that.

Elf Day!

We had a fabulously fun day yesterday in the home taking part in Elf Day.

Staff members donned anything elf like for the day, from full elf outfits, elf socks , Elf T-Shirts, Elf headbands and we had our very own 'Elf and Safety' Maintenance man.

The home took part in this event to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Society. Alzheimer’s is so close to all our hearts.

One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. A report commissioned by Alzheimer's Society, shows that around a million people in the UK have a form of dementia.
