Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Emma Powers
Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.
I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.
I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
A trip to the pub
It might be cold outside but our residents wrapped up warm and went out again for Christmas lunch and a festive drink at the Sherwood pub. Everyone had a fabulous time yet again and we are all definitely feeling in the festive spirit. Thanks to Craig and Kim for looking after us and our residents making sure they had a wonderful time.
Christmas Jumper Day
With all the residents Christmas outings this past week that we have kept you up to date with , we have one more shout out to give this week....and that's to our wonderfully dedicated staff team !
All our staff took part in the National Christmas Jumper day on Thursday and made a great effort, Without our truly dedicated, hardworking and caring staff our home would not be what it is today!
Donkey Sanctuary
Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care. They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Edinburgh Botanical Garden
Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.
The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.
Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
Rediscovering art
Resident, Sandra has found some of her old art skills with this beautiful pot owl. Despite having to paint left handed she is slowly relearning the water colour skills she adores. All our residents benefit from craft sessions finding fine motor control can help a shaky hand or their observation and concentration can be rediscovered.
Games afternoon
Life is like a game, Like snakes and ladders. Throw the dice and see the number, Up you go or down you fall. It all depends on the throw. Life is like that, It depends on your decision, It maybe right or maybe wrong.
