Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Emma Powers

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.

I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.

I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Vegetarian for Life demo

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Sherwood Lodge care home in Fulwood, Preston were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Sherwood Lodge head chef Martin Soothill had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

All that Jazz!

Staff and residents at Sherwood Lodge care home in Preston celebrated International Jazz Day on April 30 by creating their very own day-long festival of jazz.

International Jazz Day highlights the diplomatic role jazz plays in uniting people from all corners of the globe.  Jazz music was originally a blend of African, Latin and European forms and styles that first became popular in the 1920s.

Staff and residents at the home marked the day with a whole host of fun activities, they learned about the history of jazz, created jazz playlists, watched and enjoyed a virtual jazz concert and had a go at learning the guitar.
