Activities at Rose Lodge Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Rose Lodge Care Home

Shrove Tuesday

The staff and residents at Rose Lodge were mixing up batter and flipping pancakes this week in preparation of our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day celebrations. We marked this year’s Pancake Day with a flipping competition and of course, lots of pancakes! Di Lilley, head chef at our home, flipped more than 90 pancakes, serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for some eager residents.

Di said: “My secret to the best pancakes is all in the mixing. Give it some elbow grease when mixing the batter and mix them properly and you’ll get perfect pancakes every time. I like making different ones with the residents and talking about their experiences of Shrove Tuesday when they were younger. We are still coming out with lemon and sugar as a firm favourite!”

Won.  pat and Elizabeth enjoyed playing the ice game they both said  we had so  much  fun and laughter we also had residents playing dominoes martin is a keen dominoes player.

Metal Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.

Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Why is sensory important?

Senses can provide strong links to the past, as evidenced through reminiscence activities in aged care. For example, a person's sense of smell can provide powerful links to memory and emotion, and our care teams can support these connections through activities such as aromatherapy.

In our memory lane community, residents really enjoy looking through the sensory trolley with lots of smells and having a good old sort to see what they can find. It’s good for communication, starting conversations and bringing back memories and chatting about them.

Skype Across the World

Helping residents to keep in touch with loved ones is incredibly important to us here at Rose Lodge Care Home.

Prior to Ann living at Rose Lodge she used to Skype with her sister Susan in America every week. Now that Ann is at Rose Lodge  she  has reconnected the sisters with their weekly Skype video chats. This has ensured they keep their close connection going, just with a change of venue.

Ann and her brother thoroughly look forward to this weekly video call with their sister. They thoroughly enjoy reminiscing about their childhood days and what they've been up too.

If you'd like to set up Skype calls with any of your loved ones at Rose Lodge, please don't hesitate to contact activities.

Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
