Activities at Paternoster House Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Sandy Phillips

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Sandy and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Paternoster House.  I have worked at the home for just over a year starting as part of the hospitality team, but when the opportunity to work as part of the activities team I jumped at the chance.  I have a background in working as an activities coordinator for children's activities at the local leisure centres, along with craft clubs after school and Messy play for toddlers.

I am creative and working wit the team we are all bringing new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  We ensure we plan a varied and interesting programme of activities and events.

As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

George walks for all Nannies and Grandads

Congratulations George for completing the Memory Walk to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.  George's nanny is a Paternoster House resident and to support the fundraising we have also held a raffle in the home.

The amazing George said "My name is George and I am five years old. My nanny lives at Paternoster House on Memory Lane. My nanny is living with Alzheimers. I am walking to raise money for my nanny and all the other nanny and grandads who have sore heads."

Date Night for a Special Anniversary

Suited and booted and looking very smart. Resident Colin’s wish was to make his and Beryl’s 49th wedding anniversary a special occasion by booking a table, arranging flowers to be delivered and a heartfelt written card; which with the help of the Paternoster team we made possible and you can see the date was a great success.

Beryl looked lovely and everyone at Paternoster House would like to congratulate these wonderful couple on your 49th wedding anniversary, so glad you both enjoyed your meal at the Woodbine Inn chosen by Colin himself.

Paternoster House Crowned Most Colourful Business Frontage

Paternoster House Staff, Residents and the Senior General Manager were invited to attend the 2023 Waltham Abbey in Bloom/Horticultural presentation.  We were absolutely delighted to be awarded the Most Colourful Business Frontage.

Our staff and residents work together to ensure that the home is always well presented and our lovely families and visitors are always greeted by the smell of flowers as they arrive.  Many of our residents use to front garden to relax and spend time with their loved ones.

All of the team at Paternoster House are over the moon with this Award!

A Day at the Seaside

With a choice of seaside towns to visit Westcliff-On-Sea was today’s choice and although the sun didn’t shine it certainly did not stop the fun!  We had a lovely fish and chip lunch, a delightful stroll along the beach, having fun with the residents with lots of giggles and daring Sandy our activities coordinator to take a dip in the sea!  Before driving back to Paternoster House resident, Doreen helped everyone to choose their favourite flavour ice cream!

Barbie and Top Gun at the Cinema

When Paternoster residents couldn't decide between watching Top Gun Maverick and Barbie we watched both!  Our afternoon of film was so enjoyable and while Barbie was not what we expected, Top Gun offered everything we did expect!

Batman and Robin Visit!

Paternoster House had some very special visitors; Batman and Robin!  Batman and Robin are three month old piglets who loved a cuddle.  The even snuggled up on residents' beds.  We always look forward to the monthly Performing Pets visit and we loved the piglets’ visit (we really wanted to keep them!).
