Activities at Paternoster House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Spreading Happiness in Loughton

Today we celebrated World Happiness Day by taking some of our residents on an outing to Loughton High to spread some happiness.

On route we visited Kids Inc Nurseries where we were greeted by the General Manager Chelsea Hawkins and the Deputy Manager Emily and several of the children who attend. The children presented us with beautiful yellow tulips and were very keen to tell our resident what made them happy which was mainly the colours "purple, lellow (yes lellow)  brown and blue".  In return we presented the children with Barchester's Granny & Grandpa's new home story book and keepsake Happiness book marker.

We also visited Loughton Fire Station who were unfortunately all out on a call except for Scott who opened up the bay and allowed us all to come inside for a picture opportunity and a chat. We then proceeded along the high street distributing our home made book marks and sweets to the general public. However Violet our 100 years young resident wanted to visit every single barbers along the entire high street wishing them all a happy happiness day.

After a lovely morning walking in the sunshine we stopped at St Marys Church cafe for a well earned cuppa tea and cake where  Patrick McCarthy said "I thoroughly enjoy the morning being out and meeting people".

Celebrating International Women's Day in Style!

We're thrilled to share that a wonderful group of our lady residents from Paternoster House enjoyed a luxurious afternoon tea at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Waltham Abbey in celebration of International Women's Day!

This special treat was generously arranged by Matthew, the son-in-law of our resident Diane, who wanted to treat his mother-in-law and several of her Paternoster House friends to a complimentary afternoon tea experience.

The ladies felt like true VIPs as they were pampered with delicious treats and elegant service in the beautiful hotel setting. There were smiles all around as they celebrated women's day together in such sophisticated style.

Days like these create precious memories that our residents will treasure. We're so grateful to Matthew and his colleagues at Delta Hotels for their thoughtfulness in arranging this delightful outing!

Stretcing Out with G-Fitness

Levi from Gfitness visited our residents to show us his magic and his muscles. As you can see our residents gave Levi a run for his money copying all his moves and didn't even break sweat. Resident Violet at 100-years of age put us all to shame!

Did you know our activities team create a weekly schedule of activities based on residents’ interests? Many of these activities are open to the local community to attend.  Please call the activities team on 01992 787 202 to find out more.

Intergenerational World Book Day

On World Book Day we had a special literary treat when students from Upshire Primary Foundation School paid them a visit. Led by Headteacher Mr Jones, the young visitors arrived in colourful costumes representing their favourite literary characters—from Ghostbusters and witches to Maze Runner, Dog Man, and Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

The excited young readers spent quality time with residents throughout the home, visiting all communities and talking to residents in their rooms and communal areas. They spoke about their favourite books and updated everyone on the characters, authors, and their joy of reading.

"Our residents all love to read or be read to," said Activities Coordinators Cathy and Angie. "Celebrating World Book Day alongside the Upshire school children created a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational connections through our shared love of books."

Before leaving, each child received a chocolate treat to say thank you for visiting, and Mr Jones was presented with several books specially designed by Barchester Healthcare in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Society, including "Visiting Gran" and "Grandad's New Home" by Virginia Ironside—resources created to help children understand dementia.

Pancake Day and Race!

What a busy day we had celebrating Pancakes at the Annual in Waltham Abbey!

Our residents had a fabulous time taking part in the Annual Waltham Abbey Town Partnership. Incorporating 'The 7Cs Group - WA' Pancake Race. Paternoster Resident; Dot said she definitely had a flippin' great time as she crossed the finish line to win her category race, stating it was wonderful to receive the golden star cup and certificate from Mayor of Waltham Abbey; Shane Yerrell Bca.

Our happy band of residents and staff loved every minute of their individual races, the laughter was non-stop as they ran through the town flipping away and trying not to lose their pancakes!

To celebrate they had a well-deserved cup of tea and some sugary treats in the artisan Crepe and Shake cafe.

Our non-participating residents and staff at Paternoster House didn't miss out on their fair share of pancakes as chef served a variety of delicious pancakes and yummy toppings throughout the day for everyone to decorate as they like them; with fresh fruit, berries, syrup and chocolate or the traditional squeezed lemon and sugar sprinkles.
