Activities at Paternoster House Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Sandy Phillips

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Sandy and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Paternoster House.  I have worked at the home for just over a year starting as part of the hospitality team, but when the opportunity to work as part of the activities team I jumped at the chance.  I have a background in working as an activities coordinator for children's activities at the local leisure centres, along with craft clubs after school and Messy play for toddlers.

I am creative and working wit the team we are all bringing new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  We ensure we plan a varied and interesting programme of activities and events.

As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Karina and Veronica complete Duke Edinburgh with us

Well, here we are at the end of the 3 months for Karina and Veronica of Broxbourne school who did their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and choose our home to meet our residents and enjoy their company every week, even when on one occasion they couldn’t attend due to illness they still made sure they had some sort of communication via a card.

As you can see in the photos, the girls had lots of fun as did the residents.

I know I speak on behalf of the residents, families, staff and management that Karina and Veronica are truly loving and caring young ladies and gave so much pleasure and mostly understanding.

We all wish them the best in their final leg of their D of E expedition and we certainly look forward to the photos and stories on their return.

As part of our regular gardening club, staff and residents have been busy creating a Fairy Garden. This garden is interactive for both residents and relatives, and we welcome any new fairies who appear!

John's Gardening Tips

Resident John is a keen gardener and knows more than a thing-or-two about roses. John took our Activities team to the local garden centre to purchase some of his favourite (Whiskey Mac) roses to be planted in one of our courtyards. John then provided a gardening lesson to the team and a couple of residents.

Our gardening club is constantly hard at work ensuring that all the residents have wonderful outdoor spaces to enjoy in the summer sun. Our courtyards and extensive gardens are beautiful, so please feel free to pop in to view these.

'Our' Mayor Shane

We would like to congratulate Shane, who is one of our Activities Coordinators, on becoming Mayor of Waltham Abbey.

We are so proud of him and our residents were overjoyed seeing him wearing his chain of office. We can’t wait to book him for an official appearance so he can visit our residents in his official capacity.

This weekend we celebrated our new king by throwing a big coronation party involving residents from every unit

Our lovely residents were each given a flag as they entered the main lounge to watch the fantastic Jamie Callis singing live

Our residents, family & friends sang along and waived their flags with pride and were then treated to tea & cake in the cafe area

As you can see fun was had by all involved
