Activities at Paternoster House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Taking Flight in London

Today we took four of our lovely ladies on a trip to London where they enjoyed the unique experience of traveling on the IFS Cloud Cable Car which crosses the River Thames, between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks.

The ladies were blown away by the breathtaking views, while pointing out some of London’s most iconic buildings including:

St Paul's Cathedral, The Gherkin, The O2 Arena. Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Shard.

As we flew 90 metres above the River Thames, they beamed with pride while waiving and smiling at fellow passengers passing by.

As our experience finished. We sat down to enjoy a cup of tea the ladies expressed their delight at being able to have taken part in such a unique experience.

Happy Birthday 'Doreen'

On Thursday we had a wonderful time celebrating the delightful Doreen's birthday.

After a trip to the local for lunch with friends, chef created a delicious fresh cream and strawberry sponge cake for Doreen, her guests and fellow residents. After a rendition of Happy Birthday from everyone Doreen enjoyed a large slice with her birthday brew!

She's such a lovely lady who enjoys reminiscing about her husband and holidaying in Cornwall, where she recalls with glee listening to the sound of the coastal waves.

Jacqueline's MJ Theatre Trip

Paternoster House resident; Jacqueline has been a life long Michael Jackson fan, but unfortunately never had the opportunity to see him perform live. When the production of 'MJ The Musical' was announced Prince Edward Theatre Jackie was so excited. She explained to the Activity Team that this was the closest that she would ever come to seeing him live!

Following that conversation the team sprang into action and booked tickets to see the show. As we arrived at the theatre Jackie was beaming with pride and couldn’t wait for the performance to start.

The show started with a bang as dancers popped out from underneath the stage. From that moment onwards it was action packed which kept us all on the edge out seats. Jackie, smiled, clapped and cheered throughout and expressed her gratitude as soon as the show finished. As we left the theatre Jackie said; "that was the best show I've ever seen."

We love making dreams come true!

Blooming Marvellous!

We've been celebrating Chelsea Flower Show with our own creative flower arranging session lead by home volunteers; Christine and Sue.

Created and run by the Royal Horticultural Society, Chelsea Flower Show is the world’s greatest flower show with stunning garden designs and gorgeous floral displays.

Residents at Paternoster House had an array of fresh flowers and greenery to choose from; shop bought, and many handpicked by Christine and Sue courtesy of their own blossoming gardens.

As they handled each stalk to make up their personalised display the floral aromas, and the scent of Philadelphus shrubs more commonly known as 'Mock Oranges' flooded the room. Several of the ladies recalled their wedding bouquets and we reminisced about the flowers each contained on the big day!

Brenda, a resident at Paternoster House added: “It’s been a lovely activity, the different colours and fragrances have helped bring the outdoors in.”

General Manager, Corina Popescu said: “Our garden is a much loved space, our residents really enjoy looking after the plants and flowers and watching them grow and change through the seasons. It has been wonderful to see all the beautiful garden designs at Chelsea, it has given us real inspiration to try some new planting schemes and see what we can achieve in our own garden.”
