Activities at Park View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Pudding Club

On the 26th January we invited family and friends to join us at Parkview for our pudding club. Staff made some old fashioned cakes with help from our residents, we also had family members make cakes. Barchester has 9 different homes taking part in the pudding club. Each care home is joining together and are being encouraged to make cakes with their residents. We are hoping to make a book with the top recipes that residents remember baking with their children or that has been passed down from their parents and grandparents.

On the day, our activities staff decorated the coffee lounge with old fashioned tea cups, plates and wine glasses. We invited families, and friends from our local church. Our residents came along and enjoyed tasting the cakes and reminiscing about the cakes they had made with their grandparents and great grandparents. We had cakes from different cultures so residents and guests could try cake they might not of had before. Our residents had such a lovely time and enjoyed eating cakes and puddings, and engaging with some new people, sharing stories and laughing. As one resident described it: "the good old days".

Sensory Garden Open Day

On Sunday 22nd May, Park View Care Home in Dagenham, Morland Road, celebrated and opened up their new Dementia Sensory Garden for their residents. During a meeting with the Residents who had expressed that they would like a Sensory Garden within the grounds. As part of Park View’s Dementia care, residents, staff and volunteers have been working on creating a Sensory Garden for their residents. This project was managed by our Head House Keeper, Elzbieta Stach. Elzbieta and her team spent many hours over the past few months planning and building this garden, as well as donating. The aim of the Sensory Garden is for Park View’s residents to have a chance to connect with nature, encourage their awareness of their surroundings and to tap into principles of mindfulness. Also giving residents a chance to maintain life skills, develop their independence and to enjoy their stay at Park View.
