Activities at Orchard House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Orchard House Care Home

International Pride Day

Orchard House organised a community project for International Pride Day, which took place on Monday 28th June. A call for rainbow coloured knitted squares was put out on the community Facebook page and the response was amazing from all over the Isle of Wight community and further afield.

The original idea was to create a rainbow made from the brightly knitted squares to hang outside the home. In reality, the response was so fantastic that there is a rainbow as planned, but also a rainbow knitted border along the fence, a tree completely wrapped in rainbow squares and the planters outside are also hailing their rainbow colours.

Celebrating Fathers Day

We celebrated Fathers Day with every gentleman receiving a handmade card decorated by Debbie, our creative activities coordinator, personal to what they enjoy! With a small gift from us it was a great day with lots of relatives visiting too

Celebrating National Carers Week with our team

We are celebrating our amazing carers, they are a huge part of what makes Orchard House the best place to live and recognising their commitment and hard work to us each day not just during National Carers Week. Head Chef Claire made amazing lemon cakes with elderflower frosting and we all enjoyed a delicious slice! With certificates, chocolates and cards from Barchester Healthcare there were plenty of smiles behind the masks

Our virtual Safari Park visit!

Residents were pleased to be able to dive into the wild safari life of Knowsley Safari Park this week and to enjoy an amazing live stream tour of the park’s grounds. Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including giraffes, meerkats and tigers

Everyone had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.

Our Blooming Haus Floristry Masterclass!

Our home was full of colour and scent yesterday as residents spent time creating beautiful floral masterpieces to enter the Blooming Barchester competition in partnership with Blooming Haus Floral Engineers following their amazing virtual flower arranging masterclass on Zoom.

Residents and staff all had a wonderful time decorating and working on our arrangements and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in applying all the tips and ideas learnt during the class to make a colourful floral design

We had a Bee-utiful afternoon!

Residents had a bee-rilliant time meeting a local bee keepers, Terri and Carol from the Ark Park Apiary who gave a fascinating talk about their bees, the history of bee-keeping and also brought along their own Isle of Wight honey for a tasting on World Bee Day

Joan, a resident said: “I have always found bees fascinating, they really are marvellous little creatures.  We had such an interesting day today, I loved the bee keeper talk and sampling all the local honey, it was absolutely delicious!”

General Manager, Kim Fleming, said: “Our residents all love to watch the wildlife in our garden so they were only too happy to help plant some bee-friendly flowers after the bee keepers talk to attract more bees and butterflies in. It is so important to look after all our wildlife but especially to help protect our bee population given their importance in the food chain.”

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
