Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

A Breath of Fresh Air

As the sun shone, residents grabbed the chance to enjoy the dry weather with a little exercise and reading of newspapers in the garden. Everyone felt better for grabbing a breath of fresh air, feeling the sun on their faces and chatting about their favourite flowers.

Happy Birthday, Captain Tom!

Residents at Mulberry Court created handmade cards for Captain Tom Moore to surprise him on his birthday.

Captain Tom is a former British Army officer, known for his efforts to raise money for the NHS in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the Coronavirus pandemic. Moore served in India and the Burma campaign during the Second World War.

Sweet Treats for Everyone

Mulberry Court had a sweet treat in store for residents as they took part in an exciting baking session. Residents put their aprons and thinking caps on as they decided what to bake, with Betty showing off her delicious cakes before residents sat back and enjoyed the mouth-watering treats whilst trying different kinds of Yorkshire tea.

Community Spirit

Residents and colleagues at Mulberry were delighted to answer the door to accept a special delivery from their local Morrison’s outlet, who were out delivering free fresh bread and bakery items to carers and key workers across the York area for everyone to enjoy and in recognition of the homes hard working, dedicated team supporting residents during this difficult period.

The cheese scones were particularly tasty! The aroma of these tasty treats can be smelt throughout!

On behalf of Mulberry Court, residents and colleagues would like to pass on their gratitude for being considered at this time of uncertainty and hope everyone stays safe and well. Such a nice gesture thinking of us care homes and everyone joining forces to keep the community spirit together!

Flower Power

Residents of Mulberry Court enjoyed an afternoon of flower arranging to help decorate their home with springtime blooms. Everyone enjoyed assorting the flowers to create beautiful arrangements in various vases while having a catch-up over a cup of tea.

Intergenerational Singing Session

Back in September 2019 a group of Childminders contacted us asking if they could come and do some singing with the children they cared for and the residents on a monthly basis. We had heard about Intergenerational Activities before so we snapped their hands off as we knew it would be a huge benefit for both young and old.

Mulberry Court hosts these Intergenerational Singing Session for residents and the Childminders and children come in and run them. So far they have been a huge hit and many of our residents are asking to attend these sessions.

This particular event on the photo took place during the festive season. Everyone enjoys singing and socialising. On some of the sessions the Childminders have even brought in themed crafts do with the residents.

General Manager, Steve Edgar said: “When the group approached us we couldn’t believe our luck!  We had been considering how to promote and foster mutually beneficial intergenerational relationships for a while, and this seemed to fit the bill perfectly.  The residents, children, Childminders and Mulberry Court Team have all benefited from this collaboration – long may it continue, and a big “thank you” to Rachel, Nikki, Victoria and Faye”
