Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Residents enjoy quiz and dot to dot

Betty and Joan had fun taking part in the general knowledge quiz and dot to dot in our café area.

Steve Edgar, General manager, said. The calm appearance of this photograph does not do justice.  Joan won the quiz and both enjoyed the dot to dot and both earned the the relaxing cup of tea with biscuits.

Family visit brings joy

Despite the clouds and the rain Geoff’s day was brightened by a visit from his son and grandson.

Steve Edgar the General Manager said  Geoff’s smile and the expression  on his face when he saw his grandson shone brighter than the sun that day, and the Barchester umbrella certainly helped.

Geoff will no doubt respond to Steve’s comment with his dry sense of humour.

Residents get pampered

The ladies and gents at Mulberry Court recently enjoyed a beauty day at the home courtesy of the staff from the home swapping roles for the day to treat residents to hair and beauty treatments.   Honouring the women residents at the home, colleagues supported with a range of beauty kits in the salon to pamper and beautify. The hospitality team at the home also served a spread of teas and cakes for all to enjoy to the delight of all!    The Resident said “It’s made my day!”

Steve Edgar, General Manager said: “It’s always a lovely treat to be pampered, and our residents deserve it. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at the home as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this one was our most fashionable fun! Living in a care home doesn’t put a stop to celebrating life, and our engaging activities are designed to be enjoyed by all who want to join in”

Long awaited reunions

For some residents at Mulberry Court the long awaited reunion with family and friends became a reality recently, as garden visits have now been allowed to commence at the home.   There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment behind the scenes at Barchester Healthcare, who run Mulberry Court care home. Social distancing was still in place, and homes that are able to take part must have a large accessible garden.

It was welcome news to so many residents, family, and friends, who were kept apart for so long following strict government guidance. Residents and their loved ones got together in the home garden and the garden was full of joy and chatter.

Father's Day

Residents at Mulberry Court enjoyed a special lunch in celebration of Father’s Day.   This year, due to the current situation, family and friends joined in the celebrations virtually via video call. Residents weren’t phased by this however, as they have become quite tech savvy at Skype calls, FaceTime, and online events. These platforms are an invaluable way to keep people connected with loved ones and friends, as well as with the local communities, during these unprecedented times.

Staff and residents enjoyed a day of a special homemade lunch of prawn cocktail, roast pork with apple sauce, or baked haddock with cheese and tomato topping, both served with roast creamed potatoes and assorted vegetables. Pudding was firm favourite chocolate sponge with custard and was prepared by the home’s chef.
