Activities at Mount Vale Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Residents enjoy intergenerational link

Elderly residents at Mount Vale care home in Northallerton have recently been involved in intergenerational work with the local junior school. The care home have been welcoming the group of junior school children from South Otterington C of E school on a monthly basis, to enjoy reading books and sharing activities together with residents at the home.

Head Mistress of South Otterington School, Amanda Gledhill invited Mount Vale residents to join the pupils at their morning worship this week and went on a visit. Edwina Herbert, a retired school teacher enjoyed spending time with the children, which brought back some happy memories.

Coronation Celebrations

Our Coronation Celebrations were wonderful here at Mount Vale. We held an ‘Afternoon Fizz filled tea’. Residents, Family and Friends came together to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. Our Chefs made some delicious food, and we toasted with glasses of Fizz. We celebrated throughout the long weekend and reminisced over the former coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth and how things have changed. Our Home looked wonderful all trimmed with the bunting.

Coronation talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

We had the nursery children from Rosedene Nursery come visit us over Easter to do an Easter Egg Hunt in our Gardens.

The children visit us weekly here for our ‘Reading corner’ and absolutely love coming in. Our Residents had great fun watching them scramble round looking for the eggs and checking out the insects!

We held a colouring competition and residents chose 3 pictures and awarded prizes, which thrilled the children.

A Visit from Jack

Once again we had ‘Jack’ come to visit us here at Mount Vale. Jack is one of many therapy dogs from ‘Therapy dogs nationwide’. Jack was a huge hit with our residents and sat very patiently while everyone game him cuddles.

Therapy dogs have been proven to improve general health and wellbeing, movement and coordination which is why we include them into our activity schedules here at Mount Vale. We also have Bambi who comes into work with Becky, our Activities Coordinator, so all of our residents are familiar with her and look forward to her visits.
