Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Life at Marple Dale Care Home

Home brews up a storm

Marple Dale brewed up a storm with their own pop up café.    At Marple Dale they were missing their regular trips out into the community and Residents were missing their popular costa coffee fix, so with a little originality we created our very own pop up café in the homes grounds to serve some of our favourite drinks.

Activities coordinator, Clare Burke said – “We had a fantastic time enjoying our pop up costa café and the coffee pods went down a storm and we look forward to visiting our local branch very soon to enjoy our cuppa”

A fruity afternoon

Residents of Marple Dale enjoyed a fruity afternoon with their very own cocktail master class as they created delicious fruit mock tails and fruit smoothies as a refreshing treat as they took advantage of the beautiful sunshine in the homes grounds.

Activities coordinator, Clare Burke said “Everyone enjoyed the traditional twist to our afternoon tea with our mouth-watering mock tails, residents really enjoyed their experience of being bartender for the afternoon and making and mixing the mock tails. It was a really fun way for them to enjoy sampling different fruits and drinks.”

Carers Week

Marple Dale held a day of celebrations to thank care staff at the home who make a real difference to the lives of those in their care. Staff were treated to nibbles and refreshments, with the residents nominating four carers that they wanted to give special recognition to. Each were presented with a gift bag of goodies as a special thank you. The home’s nursing team also decorated a wall as a way of saying thank you, which also included a picture designed and painted by one of their volunteers that took centre place.

VE Day Celebrations

Residents of Marple Dale celebrated VE Day with a traditional tea party to commemorate 75 years since the end of the Second World War.

Staff and residents at Marple Dale, along with people all over the UK, joined together for the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’. In light of the current situation, rather than celebrating with street parties, at 3pm on May 8th, the country was encouraged to mark the day with a nationwide toast, paying tribute to the many millions at home and abroad who sacrificed so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.

Residents also celebrated the occasion by painting the home red, white and blue with Union Jacks, watching virtual entertainment and enjoying a good old sing-a-long to war time songs before tucking into a delicious selection of food that was on offer.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Staff and residents at Marple Dale showed support of Mental Health Awareness Week 2020 by spreading some positivity and joy, as the theme this year was ‘kindness’.

Running from 18th - 24th May, Mental Health Awareness Week encourages us to start conversations around mental health, sharing our experiences and stories, promoting an overall healthier understanding of mental health issues, especially at this uncertain time.

Throughout the week, Marple Dale residents and staff supported the initiative by reaching out to the community and were kindly donated a painting from a volunteer artist from their local community hub, and made a lovely display showing off the home's nurses who work very hard at the home, and one of the nurses who was nominated won the picture for all her hard work.

Residents were also touched to receive messages from their local community outside of the home to show acts of kindness.

Over the Rainbow

Residents joined in making this beautiful rainbow for our home, reminding our team members to stay safe and to show our family members how creative we are!
