Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

National Nest box week

We have been getting ready for National Nest Box week here at Marple Dale. We have painted our bird homes and they are now up on our trees for our lovely birds. TJ one of our senior carers helped put them up onto the trees. Tracey who helped paint them is very glad to see one outside her bedroom. We like to look after our birds here at Marple dale, as we have beautiful grounds and all sorts of wildlife that visits.

Love is in the air!

Love is all around here at Marple dale as we celebrated valentines over the weekend. We enjoyed doing flower displays for our dining tables and making yummy chocolate truffles.  Everyone got a small gift of love to enjoy on the day. On Valentine’s Day we did a quiz and to finish the day, there was a romantic film to watch in the lounge.

60's fashion with Mary Quant

Last week our residents marked Mary Quant’s birthday with fun-filled fashion-inspired activities.

Mary Quant is an English fashion designer of youth-oriented styles, responsible in the 1960s for the ‘Chelsea look’ of England and the widespread popularity of the miniskirt and ‘hot pants’.

During the day our residents discussed all things fashion and got involved in a themed quiz, along with mini taking a look at fashion photos and their own creative arts session where they designed their own stylish outfits.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Clay modelling

Clay modelling, here at Marple Dale we got creative and made our very own clay pieces.

Resident, Gordon said "it was marvellous and that he had never done this in his life".

Here at Marple Dale we like to try new activities as part of our life enrichment programme.

Valentine's inspired cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Etherow Park

We had a lovely time feeding the ducks and going for a big stroll around the park. After our lovely time venturing around the park we went to the café. We had yummy food and hot drinks to warm us back up. It felt so nice to get some fresh air and see lovely views
