Activities at Lochduhar Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Sally Gilder
Sally has been in the care sector since 1998. Sally joined the Lochduhar team in 2018 as a care assistant.
Sally is very passionate about the care she provides and the welfare of the residents. Working as a care assistant Sally was able to get to know the residents wants and needs to provide excellent person centred care to each individual. Then in 2020 Sally found the opportunity to become Head of Activities. Sally feels that she provides a different side to herself to promote an active and inclusive lifestyle through her role as Head of Activities.

Long Service Awards
Three Care Assistants received their Long Service Awards recently - from left to right: Margaret Manu, celebrating 15 years, Josh Regatillo and Beverley Broadfoot, celebrating 10 years, along with Charles Holland, General Manager, who presented the awards. Congratulations to all three of you!
Zoolab
Residents enjoyed a visit from our local Zoolab ranger, where they were given the opportunity to hold exotic animals and learn about them throughout the afternoon. Residents took turns holding a snake, a giant snail, a millipede and a cockroach. Many of the staff were glad that only the ranger held the tarantula, although many of the residents were brave enough to ask for a close-up view!
The Prince's Helping Hand
Recently, we welcomed a group of volunteers from The Prince's Trust to help us spruce up one of our garden areas. The volunteers worked alongside residents and activities staff to paint the fence, furniture and planters, as well as to assist residents with planting new flowers. Thank you to everyone who worked hard to transform the garden!
Lochduhar's Divisional Winner
Congratulations to Merian Hope, who has been named as a Divisional Winner for Apprentice of the Year at this year's Barchester Care Awards.
Open Day at Lochduhar
We celebrated National Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June; it was a fantastic opportunity for people from the community to come along and check out our home. It was also attended by Finlay Carson MSP for Galloway and West Dumfries. She chatted to staff and residents whilst visiting Lochduhar.
Lochduhar's Variety Show
We recently held 'Lochduhar’s Royal Variety Show' to commemorate the Queen’s birthday. Acts included: George Formby, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Sister Act and Elvis. They were performed by staff in front of a large audience of residents, relatives and staff. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and residents were talking about the show for days.
