Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Vive Le France

On the 14th we joined the people of France in celebrating Bastille Day. Residents exclaimed bon appetit to one another as we enjoyed a virtual trip to gay Paree to sample a feast of traditional French cuisine including baguette topped with brie, camembert, and goats cheese, along with buttery pastries such as croissants and pain au chocolat, and of course the wine was flowing!

Romantic melodies of French music provided a backdrop to the occasion, as residents learnt more about Bastille Day and french culture, along with becoming fluent in the language of love by testing their French language skills!

Oh I do like to be besides the seaside

We certainly chose the right day for a jaunt out to the coast today!  As residents enthusiastically embarked on the homes mini bus they chose the family favourite of Redcar seafront for today's mini bus adventure!

The sun shone brightly as residents enjoyed a stroll along the seafront; appreciating the salty sea air, and waves crashing upon the shore. We even made the most adorable little friend in Treacle the jackapoo puppy.

And of course we couldn't resist traditional fish & chips for lunch, followed by the Redcar classic, lemon top ice cream!

Foundation Cook Off

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Residents enjoy Pride month

This June, staff and residents at Leeming Bar have been celebrating Pride Month with an explosion of colour! Residents, loved ones, and the team enjoyed a Pride party in the glorious sunshine with enthusiastic karaoke renditions, delicious ice cream, rainbow sweetie bar, and showstopping rainbow cakes made with love by the homes second chef Karen Garbutt!

Exploring the Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Midsummer Magic!

We celebrated the summer solstice in the glorious sunshine with an enchanted midsummer garden party! Residents celebrated nature by brewing their own rose & honey tea, decorating fairy doors to adorn the garden, and created flower crowns using wild flowers kindly picked by resident Brenda.

A wonderful way to begin the summer!
