Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

RAF Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Pets at the Palaces

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

Celebrations fit for a King

Excitement is in the air at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar where residents and staff have been busy making Coronation-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of head chef Toni Scott in preparation for the King’s Coronation on May 6.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home joined the nation in hosting The Big Coronation Lunch with a step back in time to 1940s Britain. The royally amazing kitchen team whipped up a fabulous buffet filled with tasty British classics, all washed down with a spot of Pimm’s! The amazing Carrie Steele got the party started as she belted out war time classics and of course God Save The King, which was sung proudly by all with enthusiastic flag waving. The whole home came together to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

Coronation talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Flower Power

This April we took a boogie back in time to the era of bell-bottoms and bouffants! As part of our open day we welcomed friends old & new into the home for a day of 60s & 70s themed fun; the day kicked off with a musical quiz to get us in the mood for our flower power disco in the afternoon with live musical entertainment from Chris Gilly! Chris belted out all the classics as the lounge was transformed into a discotech.

A big thank you to all who came along to join in the fun!

Happy Easter!

We would like to wish our loved ones a very Happy Easter! We hope your day has been as crackin' as ours! To mark this holy occasion residents began their day with an Easter service filled with readings, poetry, and traditional hymns; with time for reflection during a time that is significant in many of our residents lives Head Chef Toni & her fabulous dining team prepared a delicious traditional Easter roast lunch with all the trimmings (including giant Yorkshire's!) which was thoroughly enjoyed by residents, loved ones & the team! Despite our full bellies we of course made room for lots of chocolate at our Easter Egg Hunt with a special guest appearance from the Easter Bunny!
