Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Harvest celebrations

Resident’s at Leeming Bar Grange joined in the annual harvest festival by listening to their favourite harvest hymns, reading poetry and religious readings. We began getting into the harvest spirit by joining in the Barchester harvest festival display competition by creating salt dough decorations, painting and writing our own autumn poem at our weekly poetry group. Our fantastic team donated food items which will be sent to Hambleton FoodShare; a local food bank. Resident’s also chose to create some smiles within the community by making cards to send out to those who are in receipt of food parcels

Home provides gifts to Age UK

The residents and team created goodie bags for Age UK- North Yorkshire and Darlington and the COVID19- Northallerton Support For Our Community Group to thank the organisations for working tirelessly to support the vulnerable within the community during what has been, and continues to be an incredibly difficult time.

Leeming Bar Grange also created goodie bags for the teams to pass on to those most in need in the community. These bags included items to help promote mental wellbeing such as puzzles, word searches, biscuits, chocolates, and teabags amongst other little treats. The residents at Leeming Bar Grange also created cards as part of their weekly community kindness group in order to create some smiles within the community

Home surprise the British Red Cross

Residents and staff at Leeming Bar Grange  feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an amazing community. Therefore the home have been surprising the community with goodie bags filled with sweet treats, handmade cards and items such as water bottles and flasks to help support them in continuing with their fantastic work.

Team members surprised British Red Cross Ambulance Workers Jay Bennett and Sam Beere at The Friarage Hospital. Both Jay and Sam were incredibly grateful for these goodie bags with Jay commenting that his works flask had recently broken so it was great timing! A big thank you to Jay, Sam and all their amazing colleagues at British Red Cross for all their hard work and dedication to our community

World Teacher's Day

Here at Leeming Bar Grange we have regular reminiscence sessions; one topic that always encourages lots of discussion is ‘school days’; with residents speaking about their favourite teachers and how they impacted them. So of course on World Teacher’s Day residents chose to mark the occasion by expressing their gratitude to teachers; both past and present. Resident’s got creative making cards and gifts whilst reminiscing over their school experiences with resident Mavis commenting that even after 80 years she’s never forgotten the kindness of her math’s teacher.

Resident’s presented gifts to fellow residents who are former teachers; resident Ann who used to be a special needs teacher stated it was such a lovely surprise to be presented with the gifts. Resident’s also wished to thank our friends at Aiskew, Leeming Bar CE Primary School for all their fantastic work and created a box of goodies along with their homemade gifts. A big thank you to all teachers, past, present and future, as the residents gifts state ‘teaching is a work of heart’!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The residents and team at Leeming Bar Grange joined the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this September in order to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The team baked an array of delicious baked goods; with Chef Janet’s rocky road selling out after just 10 minutes!

We had a day full of sweet treats with residents joining in a cake tasting quiz with lots of flavours being savoured such as; toffee, chocolate, coffee, cherry, mint, vanilla and lemon. All the fun managed to raise over £100 which will be passed on to Macmillan Cancer Support

Thank you so much to all the residents and team at Leeming Bar Grange who made the day the sweetest of successes!

Home raises funds for Alzheimer's Society

The resident’s and team joined the country in walking for a world without dementia this September. The residents and team worked together to complete 100 laps of our beautiful garden! Everyone was very supportive and worked to encourage each other throughout the challenge; creating decorations and cheering each other on!

Those who are living with dementia walked with fellow residents and the team in solidarity to support the charity. We are proud to report that we have raised an amazing £215.50 to be donated to Alzheimer’s Society

A huge thank you to the home’s fantastic community in helping us to raise money for this great cause!
