Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Taste buds tingle for National Pizza Day

Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar decided to celebrate National Pizza Day on 9th February!

Residents and staff all got involved with the spirit of day by making their own homemade pizzas and holding a pizza party for their evening meal!

General Manager, Michelle Keep at Leeming Bar Grange care home, said: “This has been a huge amount of fun and got everyone’s taste buds tingling! The day also provided a meaningful opportunity for residents to reminisce about baking for their families when they were younger”.

Home honours World Cancer Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar have been marking World Cancer Day by fundraising to support this worthy cause.

World Cancer Day took place on 4th February.  The idea behind the day is to have one single initiative when the entire world can come together to fight cancer.  Thanks to research, two in four people will now survive their cancer for 10 years or more.  World Cancer Day unites people, communities and entire countries to raise awareness and take action against cancer.

The staff and residents marked the day by discussing how cancer has affected their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Residents spoke about how they could show their support to those affected by cancer and decided to use their creative skills to make cards and gifts in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK

Do we have a story for you!

Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar has been finding out the favourite stories of residents and staff, and sharing them during National Storytelling Week.

Many of the residents at Leeming Bar Grange care home have a knack of telling a great story or two, and National Storytelling Week is a perfect opportunity to experience the joy of storytelling.

Storytelling is one of the oldest art forms in the world so, to help keep the custom alive, residents have been reading their own favourite short stories to other residents and hosting a virtual storytime each day on the homes Facebook page. Residents have also been reciting some of their own creative written works to other residents and the team.

Residents head to Oz for Australia Day

Residents at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home in Leeming Bar have been discovering all things Antipodean in celebration of Australia Day, which took place on Tuesday 26 January.

Residents took part in Australian-themed activities throughout the day including reminiscing about tales down under with a virtual trip to Australia including a tour of Sydney Opera House and Sydney harbour. Residents enjoyed an Australian themed quiz in which they learnt what a jumbuck is. Which inevitably got everyone dancing to one of the homes favourite songs; Waltzing Matilda! The favourite activity of the day was however a tasting of Australian wines!

International Chocolate Cake Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year!

Residents had fun getting creative designing cakes, and playing “Wheel of Cakes”; a spin on Family Fortunes where the prizes were a selection of delicious chocolate cakes! Our talented head chef Toni Scott provided a delicious selection of homemade chocolate goodies including her famous chocolate marble cake!

General Manager, Michelle Keep said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was an International Chocolate Cake Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – everyone loves chocolate cake and even better when there is a good excuse to eat it!”

International Flower Day

Residents at Leeming Bar Grange recently celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 21st January.  International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.  Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including flower arranging, reminiscing about their gardens/flowers in the home’s garden, flower puzzles and a floral themed quiz which everyone really enjoyed.  Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.
