Activities at Lawton Rise Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Kate Franks

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kate Franks and I have returned to Lawton Rise August 2023 to work as an Activities Coordinator.  I started my career working as a Legal Secretary in the Conveyancing department before leaving to commence employment with the Health Authority as a Medical Secretary.

After having my two children I retrained to work as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School for ten years and studied for a Higher Level Teaching Assistance qualification enabling to progress my career.

Due to illness within my family I needed to focus on a role closer to home but I am delighted to be able to return to the home and it feels like I have never been away. The staff and residents are so welcoming and helpful and I am really pleased that I have returned.

Life at Lawton Rise Care Home

A Kind Donation

Residents and colleagues at Lawton Rise were delighted to answer the door to accept a special delivery from their local TK Maxx, who were closing their doors temporarily due to the coronavirus. The bags were filled with delicious treats for residents and the homes hard-working, dedicated team at Lawton Rise.

On behalf of Lawton Rise, residents and colleagues would like to pass on their gratitude for being considered at this time of uncertainty and hope everyone stays safe and well. It was such a nice gesture thinking of us care homes and everyone joining forces to keep the community spirit together.

Tesco Treats

One of our fabulous community links, Rich Stephenson-Evans, from Tesco in Kidsgrove, came to visit us with lots of treats for a resident's 80th birthday celebration.

Rich supports us with lots of different activities within the home by bringing treats for special birthdays, fresh fruit for smoothie making and eggs for the residents to decorate before giving to local schools.

We love having Rich on board with the activities in the home!

Gordon Banks Memorial Day

Residents of Lawton Rise were delighted to get involved in a community project which meant the local care homes in Stoke on Trent had to create a piece of art work in memory of Gordon Banks OBE. The were joined by two old Stoke City Players and friends of the late Gordon Banks, Dennis Smith and John Ruggeiro to showcase their art project.

Residents, families and visitors enjoyed a buffet prepared by the homes chef which had taste buds tingling. Also, joining them were Stoke City news and professional photographers to cover the event. Everyone had a fantastic day and got offered an opportunity from stoke city to get involved in an NCS (National Citizen Service) project, which we accepted to take place in October 2019.

Beach Party

A traditional, enjoyed each year, and not to be missed, is Lawton Rise's popular summer beach party! Residents and staff invite families, friends and members of the community to join them and enjoy the fun of the beach in their beautiful enclosed gardens which surround the home.  There is plenty of fun for everyone from food, ice-cream, entertainment, games for the children and much more!

Last year Lawton Rise were joined by popular duo, Jon And Pam who sang a medley of hits in the sun  and everyone had a wonderful time. The residents always enjoy the younger generations coming into the home to spend time with them and families always say how much they enjoy the party’s with their loved ones.

NCS Programme

Lawton Rise met with Stoke City and were delighted to be invited to get involved with NCS, which is a programme for young adults to come into a health and social setting and help with things a home would like to change. The project focus for Lawton Rise was the homes garden surrounding the car park. Residents and staff enjoyed getting to know the young adults and a lot of fun was had by all as they said “how they really enjoyed spending time with the residents and all asked if they could come to visit” and we welcome them to visit anytime.

Lawton Rise also took trips into the community with residents to local places such as McDonalds where they enjoyed coffee and cake and Westport Lake, where they walked around the lake and stopped in the café for a hot drink and biscuits. The project lasted a week and on their last day the young adults were invited to a party hosted by the home. It was a fantastic opportunity to be part of.

Musical Moments with Anna

Musical Moments is a fantastic sensory activity, we have them in the home every other week, we always have so much fun with Anna and the residents always enjoy it! Anna sings, plays the violin and uses a lot of props to get the residents involved.
