Activities at Lawton Rise Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Kate Franks

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kate Franks and I have returned to Lawton Rise August 2023 to work as an Activities Coordinator.  I started my career working as a Legal Secretary in the Conveyancing department before leaving to commence employment with the Health Authority as a Medical Secretary.

After having my two children I retrained to work as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School for ten years and studied for a Higher Level Teaching Assistance qualification enabling to progress my career.

Due to illness within my family I needed to focus on a role closer to home but I am delighted to be able to return to the home and it feels like I have never been away. The staff and residents are so welcoming and helpful and I am really pleased that I have returned.

Life at Lawton Rise Care Home

Residents enjoy life enrichment

The fun and laughter has continued at Lawton Rise care home, in Goldenhill, Stoke on Trent as residents recently enjoyed zoom calls, virtual bingo and talent shows with a community link NCS, NCS is a programme through Stoke City Football Club and local colleges, which sees young adults deliver a ‘social action’ project regarding health and social care. Also we have recently enjoyed our Halloween party, usual weekly activities such as movie magic and skype phone calls with our families.

Music and movies fundraiser

Lawton rise have a very close bond with many in the local community, and during these tough times they haven’t been able to do anything with their links or local community, so once the restrictions were eased they couldn’t think of anything better to do than get their local community back involved by creating a ‘Prosecco and Afternoon Tea Drive Thru’ Fundraiser!

Everything was socially distanced and staff wore PPE, once they had purchased they left through their one way system and it all worked a treat! Friends family and the local community came to support them to raise funds for the dance floor we wanted fitting and with their amazing generosity it was achieved!

Home enjoy virtual awards

Residents and staff enjoyed watching the annual Barchester Care Awards virtually.  One of their own, Pat Fox won Hospitality Champion for the North division!

The home could not be prouder of Pat who has worked at the home for the last 13 years and she prides herself on ensuring she makes the home, clean and inviting and is amazing with all of their residents. Thank you Pat for everything you do!

Residents receive care packages

The National Citizens service is a service within the college funded by Stoke City Football Club, which takes groups of young people studying within the health and social care sector and helps them to get real life experiences within care settings, we worked with them last year and are hoping to continue year after year, as this year with them unable to enter the home,  the home enjoyed a zoom call to meet the young adults, introduce them to their residents and tell them all about our amazing care home.

The students then generously created boxes of care packages and delivered these to the home, they were full of letters all about the young adults, where they are from and what they do, toiletries, treats and much more! NCS is a great community link and along with Mark, who runs this throughout the year, they are a great asset to Lawton Rise.

Games afternoon

Residents at Lawton Rise enjoy a varied life enrichment programme to keep the mind, body and soul active. Each day there are popular group activities bringing everyone together along with individual Resident centred activities.

Residents enjoys a fun filled morning of exercising with ball games and a game of bowls as they enjoyed the sunny weather.

Residents enjoy therapy dolls

Residents at Lawton Rise have been enjoying doll therapy and spending quality time with their therapy dolls who resemble newborn babies.

Dementia therapy dolls are becoming increasingly used in homes for people with dementia as they are found to be very calming.

Jennifer Dale General Manager said: “the dolls are loved by our residents and are providing a sense of belong and peacefulness in the home” .
