Activities at Lawton Rise Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Kate Franks

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kate Franks and I have returned to Lawton Rise August 2023 to work as an Activities Coordinator.  I started my career working as a Legal Secretary in the Conveyancing department before leaving to commence employment with the Health Authority as a Medical Secretary.

After having my two children I retrained to work as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School for ten years and studied for a Higher Level Teaching Assistance qualification enabling to progress my career.

Due to illness within my family I needed to focus on a role closer to home but I am delighted to be able to return to the home and it feels like I have never been away. The staff and residents are so welcoming and helpful and I am really pleased that I have returned.

Life at Lawton Rise Care Home

An evening of mince pies and festive cheer!

Residents of Lawton Rise are enjoying an array of festive fun as they countdown to Christmas with their life enrichment programme.  An evening of delicious mince pies and mulled wine was top is top of the list so far, it was a wonderful evening enjoying each other’s company whilst listening to Christmas sounds playing in the background.

Hearts for Homes

Residents of Lawton Rise were delighted to receive pictures from local school,  Goldenhill Primary school as part of the Hearts for homes initiative.  These colourful cards, pictures and letters have brought smiles to all the residents and they  have created a special display of the pictures around the home for all to see and have even hung some on the homes Christmas trees.  Everyone is getting into the festive spirit!

Gingerbread House Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Lawton Rise care home love any excuse to get creative so when they found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, they didn’t need any persuading to get cracking!

The staff and residents asked the homes hospitality team to whip up a big batch of gingerbread for them and then got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, dolly mixture, candy canes and edible glitter to make some of the glitziest gingerbread houses in town.

Children in Need

Residents enjoyed celebrating this year’s Children in Need by creating home-made banners of Pudsey bear and decorating mouth-watching Pudsey inspired cakes to enjoy with their cup of tea.

The Residents had so much fun and to round off the day were served an especially prepared buffet and selection of cakes. A fun day was had by all!

Remembrance Sunday

We always honour our fallen soldiers here at Lawton Rise, on Remembrance Sunday we did that by singing old war time songs, Vera Lynn is always a favourite and we made our own poppy’s in our arts and crafts session! We observed the two minute silence watching the remembrance day parade and we feel it is very important to pay our respects on a day like Remembrance Sunday.

Bonfire night celebrations

Residents and staff enjoyed Bonfire night this year, with their popular annual fireworks display in the homes garden with sparklers and hot chocolate with marshmallows and every lounge was full of treats! The residents had so much fun wrapping up warm and going into the garden once it was dark to watch the display, the evening brought back many happy memories of bonfire nights they had growing up and they all said how much they enjoyed themselves!
