Activities at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

Our activities team are, first and foremost, devoted to each and every resident in the home, and strive to ensure that their interests, hobbies, capabilities and individual requests are met to the highest standard. This could include one-to-one chats, hand massages, reading, music therapy, flower arranging, movement to music, arts & crafts, gardening and baking. We also have regular fun, adventurous and stimulating trips, where we encourage families and loved ones to join us. We have close links with the Alzheimer's Society, the local primary school, and Trinity Skills who come to sing with residents. All the staff at Hilderstone Hall participate in activities with residents, offering encouragement, stimulation and interaction for everyone involved, providing the most fulfilling experience possible.

Spooktacular fun

Here at Hilderstone Hall we got into the spooky Halloween spirit of things by creating an autumnal display with painted and carved pumpkins.

We hosted a fun-filled afternoon with delicious Halloween inspired treats and themed music

Some of our residents preferred to paint and decorate pumpkins and to dress up for the occasion, others got involved in themed quizzes and games, and enjoyed watching Halloween films.  Visitor Ziggy the dog also enjoyed observing the spooky fun!

We all had a spooktacular time!

Beautiful bouquets

We had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.   During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.  We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.  Thank you for the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun.

Exploring Royal Botanical Garden

Our homes had a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.  Residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave us a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Resident celebrates landmark birthday

A dear resident at Hilderstone Hall, Mary, had a A very Happy 100th Birthday

Mary's family travelled from far and wide to celebrate the big day with their Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Mary of course received her prized Birthday card from the late Queen Elizabeth II which will now be thought of as even more of as a treasure to receive as it will be one of Her Majesty's last birthday cards that she sent during her glorious reign.

Chef made a beautiful buffet lunch which was enjoyed throughout the afternoon in the grand lounge

Musical fun

Today Hilderstone Hall welcomed back Anna from Musical Moments for her fortnightly visit to the home.

Residents love this morning activity and it sets them up for the day with a smile on their faces and music to their ears.

Today we were treated to a beautiful performance of somewhere over the rainbow on the flute , lots of singing and movement , and a good old laugh together.
