Activities at Hempton Field Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Nina Mullerworth

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nina and I have had the privilege of working at Hempton Field in my role as Activities Coordinator for over 15 years and I am looking forward to many more! I have enjoyed continually developing in the role with a variety of training courses, including a Level 2 NAPA and Aromatherapy Massage.

I love interacting with the residents and organising a varied programme of activities with a person-centred approach based on Barchester's Life Enrichment Programme of enhancing the wellbeing of mind, body and soul.  This includes ensuring residents can continue to enjoy hobbies, life experiences and keep active through exercise and music.  We are involved with local clubs and welcome in members of the community as well as a variety of outings in the minibus - these are always very popular!

World Chocolate Day

Residents at Barchester’s Hempton Field care home in Chinnor had a fantastic time celebrating World Chocolate Day on July 7, surely one of the best days of the year! Overseen by Activities Coordinator, Nina our residents whipped up some scrummy chocolate muffins.

General Manager, Sharon Thursby, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a World Chocolate Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too.  We all had great fun discussing our favourite types of chocolate down the years, it’s amazing how many different chocolate bars and flavours there have been!”

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
We’re making our homes as safe as possible and will ensure that all new residents and staff are vaccinated before moving in or working in our homes.

American Independence Day Celebrations

Staff and residents at Hempton Field got the flags out and celebrated American Independence Day in style by hosting a "Stars and Stripes" party with singing sensation Fiona Harrison Fiona Harrison - A Voice in a Million on the 4th of July 2021.

Our residents enjoyed singing and dancing to Fiona’s set list of American greats from Buddy Holly, Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, before settling down to a stateside ‘super-sized’ feast of ham burgers and fries, followed by American waffles, ice cream and berries, prepared by Chef Heather and the hospitality team.

Sharon Thursby, General Manager at Hempton Field, said: “Independence Day is always full of big flavours and a chance for us to celebrate all things American. We’ve had fun turning the home into an America diner and enjoying the swinging songs courtesy of Fiona Harrison,”

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

Board Game Fun

Our residents just love a game of Monopoly on a dreary summer’s day! 'Banker' George really didn't want to pay Elizabeth another £200 for passing go!

Come and join in the fun. Our 3 for 2 weeks respite offer is still on; please give Sharon our home manager a call to discuss T. 01844 809107

Meet Our Manager Day

Our 'open day' event on Saturday went so well. We'd like to thank all those who attended, and took the time to chat with our home manager; Sharon and the team. It was an absolute pleasure being able to showcase our beautiful home, and get to know you.

We were so fortunate to be entertained by the beautiful Anita Watman on her weekend visit to Chinnor, from her home in Edinburgh. Our residents and visiting guests were treated to a variety of songs from the 50's and 60s. With lots of hand-jives and singing, Anita really did us proud!

Domino Championships

Our little domino group gathered today for their next match; Ian, George, Mabel and Elizabeth really enjoy playing a game or two before lunch.

Supporting John's Solo Cyclethon

We were so pleased to meet John Coles, Senior Carer from Barchester Healthcare in Chipping Norton on his 'Longest Day solo Cyclethon' at lunch time today, he's already achieved 70+ solo cycling miles!

General Manager, Sharon Thursby greated John with refreshments and goodwill from all at Hempton Field for his onward journey to Middletown Grange Care Home in Witney.

Please join us in wishing John a safe journey to his next stop off point. Keep your eyes open for John as he cycles through Oxfordshire on his travels, he'll need as much encouragement as possible to achieve this mammoth challenge; may the sun shine and the roads remain clear.

John’s mantra throughout has been to inspire the older generation in our homes and, raise money for Be Free Young Carers (BFYC) to help give back to these amazing young carers, to make life a little easier, and give them a chance to be children, make friends and have fun away from the pressures of their caring roles.

If you can, please donate and help John achieve his goal. All donations go directly to our amazing Oxfordshire young carers.
