Activities at Harton Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Marius Sidoriuc

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Marius, I am the activities coordinator here at Harton Grange. I joined Barchester's family in 2021, as I found their approach and standards on dementia very interesting. Since early 2022 I work for Barchester as both activities coordinator and care assistant. In 2018, I started my journey in health and social care as a care assistant and very soon after, I completed courses on dementia and activities (NAPA, level 2) and I worked as both activities coordinator and care assistant in Kent. I'm also an apprentice in health and social care. I've met some amazing people that have guided my understanding of dementia.

The most important thing for me is to see our residents achieving a meaningful raison d'etre, living as they like and to benefit from a range of activities starting from Namaste to reminiscing and spiritual needs (such as praying or listening to hymns), art and craft, armchair exercises, music therapy or finger nail pamper sessions.

I like to acknowledge that I am working as a part of a whole team, including the fantastic management, hospitality and maintenance departments, promoting a person centred approach for each resident and we are glad to know each persons preferences and abilities in order to plan how the day will look with them. One way we are able to do this is through our residents' and family' meetings where we try to let everyone have their say about the way they want to live and the activities they take part in.

Customer Service Champion

Beverley Wilson, Deputy Manager at Harton Grange, was recently crowned the national winner in the Customer Service Champion of the Year category at the 2019 Barchester Care Awards on 3rd October.

Sarah Lander-Scott, Customer Experience Manager at Barchester and a judge for the category said of Beverley that “Bev has been with the company for 15 years. She has a fantastic attitude towards the residents she cares for and inspires her team to work just as hard. Bev always has time for families, health care professionals and team members and goes the extra mile every single day. It was amazing to hear how proud she was to work for us and we are just as proud to work alongside her.”

Beverley said of her win that, “I am very proud, and very honoured to be receiving this award. We work hard here at Barchester with a focus on the people we care for, and not for accolades, but it really is very special to be recognised in this way.”

Memory Walk

Our amazing residents Hilda & Betty took part in Memory Walk. Betty enjoyed waving to everyone from her wheelchair, but Hilda aged 86 walked the whole way 1.2 miles with Meg. Our team raised £400 for Alzheimer’s society. Well done everyone!

Pet Therapy

Therapy dog, Skippy, came to visit us and made everyone smile, especially Pat, Jen & Doris. We all had a lovely chat afterwards about our dogs. Skippy is coming to visit us every week to bring more smiles and happy memories.

good old days

The Good Old Days

Our residents and friends Betty & Billy spent the morning in our 1940’s kitchen. Betty cleaned some brass and Billy looked through the old cookery books remembering recipes his mum used to make.

Balcony Gardening

Billy and Meg, our activities coordinator, decided to brighten up our balcony garden by planting hanging baskets and a trough. Billy told us that he had never done anything like this before, so Meg told him the names of all the plants and how to water them to keep them healthy. He is very proud of our new garden project and has been showing everyone.

Open Day

We were pleased to welcome the Mayor & Mayoress to our open day on Thursday 18th July. Everyone had a wonderful day; we were entertained by the Harton Harmonisers, and we all enjoyed delicious food that was prepared by our Head Chef.
