Activities at Harton Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Marius Sidoriuc

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Marius, I am the activities coordinator here at Harton Grange. I joined Barchester's family in 2021, as I found their approach and standards on dementia very interesting. Since early 2022 I work for Barchester as both activities coordinator and care assistant. In 2018, I started my journey in health and social care as a care assistant and very soon after, I completed courses on dementia and activities (NAPA, level 2) and I worked as both activities coordinator and care assistant in Kent. I'm also an apprentice in health and social care. I've met some amazing people that have guided my understanding of dementia.

The most important thing for me is to see our residents achieving a meaningful raison d'etre, living as they like and to benefit from a range of activities starting from Namaste to reminiscing and spiritual needs (such as praying or listening to hymns), art and craft, armchair exercises, music therapy or finger nail pamper sessions.

I like to acknowledge that I am working as a part of a whole team, including the fantastic management, hospitality and maintenance departments, promoting a person centred approach for each resident and we are glad to know each persons preferences and abilities in order to plan how the day will look with them. One way we are able to do this is through our residents' and family' meetings where we try to let everyone have their say about the way they want to live and the activities they take part in.

Life at Harton Grange Care Home

Aloha at Harton Grange

On the hottest day of May 2020, Aloha arrived in style as the home hosted a Hawaiian day in the beautiful gardens of Harton Grange.

Residents and colleagues wore hula skirts and garlands in true Hawaiian tradition adding more colour to the occasion.  Everyone danced to the music, sang lots of songs from the 40’s and 50’s era which had the toes tapping. Making the most of the good weather a BBQ was lit and tasty treats served.  It was nice to spend some time outside, getting some sun and fresh air!

Harton Grange is Outstanding!

Harton Grange passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall 'Outstanding' rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service. The CQC inspected the home on 14th January 2020 and the report was released on 2nd March 2020.

The report stated that: “The provider's vision and values were person-centred to make sure people were at the heart of the service. This vision was driven by the exceptional leadership of the registered manager."

Easter Bunny Delivery

Happy Easter from all of us at Harton Grange. Even though we cannot go out, the Easter bunny didn’t forget the residents and staff here at our home, and delivered us a delicious selection of our favourite Easter eggs, which we all had on Easter Sunday. Residents and staff are getting truly spoilt here, with Lesley the general manager doing her regular rounds with her chocolate treat box and tempting us all.

2020 Carehome.co.uk Awards

We are proud to announce that we have won a carehome.co.uk award! We have been named as one of the top 20 care homes in North East England for 2020. Well done to everyone who made this possible!

Knit and Natter at Harton Grange

We all enjoyed our first knit and natter session at the home's lounge, there was a great turn out as we chatted and had a sing-a-long, lots of tea and biscuits and of course plenty of Knitting. We intend to make blankets for the homeless one square at a time. We are meeting once a week on a Wednesday if anyone would like to join us, be there or be square.

Tea Dance at Sutton Hall Community Centre

We had our first visit of the year to Sutton Hall Tea Dance, we were welcomed with big smiles and cuddles and all enjoyed getting back on the dance floor and had a great time. In the break we enjoyed chatting to our friends who all came over and made a fuss of us while enjoying a cuppa and biscuits.

On the way back to Harton Grange we passed through a local Shopping area called the Nook and we reminisced about shopping there, in all it was a really lovely day.
