"Barchester Harton Grange Care Home is excellent. A warm welcome always from all staff/manager. All staff are approachable with any queries the family may have. My father has only been here a short while. His Alziehmers is in the late stages now but he has settled in well. His previous care home was horrendous. At Harton Grange, they have activities on always throughout the week/weeks. Dad is reluctant sometimes to be washed and dressed but staff have already recognised when he is fully awake he's fine. So very happy that Dad is being cared for here, stress-free."

"My review of Harton Grange is that the staff and management are fabulous. They listen, they care and go beyond the call of duty. I feel safe that my father is cared for, he is well, has wonderful meals and is entertained. The day trips have been amazing and Dad was recalling (in his own way) how fantastic the museum day trip was, he loved it, loved the bus ride and enjoys the company. We as a family are very day surprised at the effort put in by staff, it's 5 stars. Very, very happy."

"After over sixty years of married life together I was dreading being apart from my husband. Harton Grange was recommended to me by a friend who had a family member at Harton Grange. I am absolutely delighted with the level of service by all the staff, the management, carers, cleaners, kitchen staff and maintenance team are so helpful and attentive to all the residents. It gives me great comfort knowing that my husband is in good hands and so well looked after."

"After living by himself for a number of years, my father asked to move into care. Since moving into Barchester Harton Grange Care Home, his overall well-being has improved tremendously. He feels sage and secure and has started to interact with others. The care home is spotless, well-lit and lovely and warm. The staff are outstanding, nothing is too much trouble and they are excellent with the residents. It is a huge relief to know he is safe, happy and contented."

"My mam has been a resident at your wonderful home since 2017 and I could not be happier. All the staff are amazing and welcoming with a smile for both residents and visitors. The food is excellent, especially Friday fish and chips. The areas and rooms are always clean and tidy with well-equipped furniture. "I cannot praise the staff enough for the care given to my mother. From the catering staff, laundry team, carers, entertainment team and senior managers, my mother is treated with immense respect, dignity and mostly love. She has made new friends and has a new outlook on life, which at 93 years old is so lovely to see. I cannot speak highly enough of this amazing facility and the people who work there. Thank you."

"My mam has only been in Harton Grange for 2 weeks but in that time she has found a new lease of life, made new friends (at 92) and after twelve months of going on hunger strike has started to eat which I am thrilled about. She seems very happy and nothing is too much trouble. The staff are all very happy and she has been treated with respect and understanding. The entertainment in the home is brilliant and mam has enjoyed playing bingo, having a sing-along and joining in with all the activities. The catering is fantastic and the laundry assistant does a great job of keeping everything clean and fresh. I am so happy to have found such a fantastic care home for my very special mother."

"Was very disappointed that not one member of staff was there to represent the care home at my relative's funeral despite the fact that the crematorium was literally around the corner, I thought she was a much-loved resident of the home having been there many years. The home, when I visited, was lovely and the staff very caring so you can understand I found this very upsetting!"

"Just to say the home went above and beyond their duties when my mam needed to go to the hospital early in the morning and the home made sure she had a cooked breakfast at 5 o clock in the morning, as she wasn't allowed to eat anything for 3 hours before her appointment, it's all the little thing they do that makes it special."

"I can't begin to tell you how much of a relief it is to know that my mam has been a resident in Harton Grange for 6 weeks and has been treated with kindness and care by all staff. She is happy with a lovely clean and comfortable room which includes en-suite, excellent meals and as much tea as she likes. There are different activities every day with lots of music which the residents can sing along to. Visitors are made very welcome and kept informed of the progress of the resident. A big thank you to all the staff."

"My mum who is 89, absolutely loves Harton Grange. Her ensuite room is lovely and always clean. The staff are always smiling and friendly and Mum loves the meals and activities. It's always a joy to see Mum's happy face. I would recommend Harton Grange to anyone in need of such a facility. There is excellent security with entry and each ward section is only accessible via a staff member's card."

"My wife was admitted into Barchester Harton Grange Care Home in April 2022 on a six weeks respite. However, this was made permanent. At first, she was not happy there because she had never been in a home before. However with the care and attention of the staff she soon settled in. I do not know how many adjectives I can use about the staff but try caring, attentive, superb and brilliant. I remember the party they put on for Her Majesty's Jubilee was excellent. It was apparent they had worked hard to achieve the occasion's success. Anybody entering this home will be pleasantly surprised. Marks for the staff out of 100 must be at least 110."

"It's been a very difficult couple of years for everybody. I've been so grateful knowing Mam has been in the safe care of Harton Grange. I would highly recommend this lovely care home to anybody looking to place a relative. Mam is always clean, happy and well cared for. Mam was only in Harton Grange for six weeks before lockdown, and I wouldn't have wanted her to be anywhere else."

"The staff who work here are fabulous they go above and beyond to help residents and relatives. Nothing is too much bother. From management, carers, kitchen, staff and cleaners. My mum is always clean and tidy. As is her room especially since a new carpet was put down. Staff keep on top of Mums washing (I don't know how with all the other things they have to do). All questions are answered honestly when I ring Mum is brought to the phone very quickly."

"My mother is very happy in Harton Grange, she is well cared for and is served nutritious meals and plenty of snacks and cups of tea. The staff are very caring and always hand if needed. It wasn't easy agreeing to my mam living in a care home but as she was no longer able to look after herself this was the only option. I now realise this was the right decision as she is safe and contented."

"My sister has been in this home since November 2017. When looking for a home for her, on my very first visit on entering the building, I felt a warm, friendly, homely feeling and knew this was the place for her - and I was right. From management, carers, chef and kitchen staff, housekeeping, laundry and activities, everyone works as a team in a very friendly and caring way and at the same time with great respect to the residents. I am happy to leave my sister in their care."

"We looked at lots of care homes for our Mam. A few of them were not suitable, 'dark' (nothing going on) etc. As soon as we entered Harton Grange we knew this was the place. "My mother in law suffers from dementia. Since arriving at Harton Grange, she is well looked after and cared for with dignity. The staff are wonderful and often, even when busy, make time for residents, when they require more one to one care. The staff always have a smile on their faces when dealing with often difficult residents. The activities coordinator is also wonderful at helping them to remain active."

"My mother has been in Harton Grange since December 2014. She was quickly welcomed and made to feel at home by all the staff. Staff are efficient, friendly and helpful at all times. They respond quickly to any emergency situations (such as medical problems) and keep the family informed. The manager is particularly approachable and makes residents and visitors feel like part of an extended family. It makes it easier in the knowledge that my mother feels 'at home' and is being very well cared for."

"My mother lived in Harton Grange for over eight years and made good friends with residents and staff alike. I was made to feel very welcome during my daily visits, which I could make at any time. If I couldn’t make it in, I would ring up and the staff would give me an update. Nothing was too much trouble and I could express concerns, which would be dealt with immediately, at any time. My mam had dementia/mobility issues and the staff tried their best to make her comfortable and keep her engaged. When I was in my mam’s room it felt like I was home with her as she had her pictures and ornaments around, together with her favourite music playing whilst we looked through photographs and chatted. After each visit, I felt happy mam was being well cared for and was safe. Harton Grange has a friendly, relaxed feel but I appreciate that all the staff work very hard to achieve this."

"It would not be fair to mention names as the entire staff are first class. We looked at a few homes but Harton Grange Care Home came highly recommended and on viewing it, it has that homely feel about it. The staff are most caring and treat everyone with kindness and dignity. The building itself is well maintained and clean. The food, facilities, and activities are very good. My mother is very happy here and calls it home which just about sums it up."

"My father has been a resident here for a couple of months (previously unhappy and getting depressed in his previous care home). He has settled straight away. His care needs have been listened to and met by both staff and management. He is always out and about on trips and participating in activities. He is happy, talkative and is really settled. There are always snacks available - fresh fruit and biscuits. The staff are so friendly, they keep me fully informed and my dad has found his 'forever home'. "Very impressed with the level of care enjoyed by my mother in law. The staff always friendly and approachable, respond to any queries imminently or find a member of staff who does know the answer. The range of activities outside the home and inside, plus they are always looking for new things to engage the residents, currently having hens on site for the residents to interact with, in the past they have invited miniature ponies in, proving popular with one resident recounting his experience looking after a pit pony, just one example of getting residents talking and sharing experiences. Overall trying and succeeding to provide a homely atmosphere, not a home institution experience."

"I have nothing but praise for this care home which my aunt has now been in for several years. The manager and all her team provide a very high level of care to the residents and are constantly trying to improve the lives of the residents. "The pre-residency visit and tour found to be very open, not pre-arranged and given freely. Facilities and care are all that we could have hoped for and it is a comfort that mother is safe as she was previously struggling on her own at home. "My mum, who is in her nineties and suffering dementia, came to live at Harton Grange in 2012. At first distraught at losing her old lifestyle, she has become more and more comfortable and even happy with life at Harton Grange. Living overseas, my visits are not as frequent as I would like them to be but I’m comfortable that she is in good hands. On my last visit (April 2017) my mum seemed happier than I’ve seen her in years and is well on track to make it to 100! The staff are wonderful – always friendly and accommodating in true Geordie style. They make best efforts to keep the residents involved and entertained. The food is good and I’m welcome to join in at mealtimes. I can visit at any (reasonable) time and even get to play with the model railway in the lounge."

"I have been coming to Harton Grange for 3yrs to see my auntie. I have been around a lot of homes and can honestly say in my opinion, is a very good home, staff are friendly and caring. Nothing is too much trouble for them, they treat residents with respect. We can speak to management and they are always helpful and always offer refreshments to us when we go into Harton Grange. I can go home at night and relax knowing my auntie is well looked after."

"Mam has been at Harton Grange for 9 years. If it wasn't for their excellent care she would not be here today. Mam always says she enjoys the meals and that there is plenty. The home is always clean and the staff busy. We are always informed of any medical appointments or medication for Mam and if there are events happening at the home. There are activities and trips out, crafts and entertainment for anyone who wants to join in."

"My father has been at Harton Grange for nearly 7 years and I have generally been very pleased with the standard of care received. There are many staff who have been there the whole time, which is a good reflection of working conditions. The staff treat residents with respect, despite some challenging situations and they engage well with both residents and their families. The food quality and quantities are good and private parties can be accommodated for birthdays etc. Rooms and communal areas are kept clean and furnishings updated and clothes and bedding are laundered regularly. The events coordinator maintains an activity schedule with regular singalongs and outings in the mini bus. Overall I would not hesitate in recommending this home to other families."

"Harton Grange Care Home is so friendly. My aunt who resides there classes it as her home. The staff organise Bingo nights, pie and peas etc which we always attend. We go on different days and times and the staff are always accommodating."

"Myself and family looked for a care home for our dear mother who at the time was 87, November 2015, after visiting a good few care homes in the area we came upon Harton Grange Care Home and instantly felt at home by the staff. Mum was made very welcome by all she has been here just over a year now and all the staff bend over backwards to look after her. She has attended all the parties and get-togethers run by the staff sometimes in their own time, we couldn't have found anywhere better, it's actually home from home x"

"Staff at the home are always friendly and welcoming. I always feel my mam is getting the care and support she needs. She is well looked after by carers who have a great understanding of her condition. I feel mam is safe at all times which makes my life easier knowing she is being cared for by people who care. My only niggle would be sometimes items of her clothing have gone missing, even when labelled but this is understandable."

"My mother has dementia, after working in an office until the age of 73. The staff at Harton Grange treat her with dignity and she enjoys a personal rapport with them and in spite of dementia, her own personality is encouraged. The musical entertainments frequently held are enjoyable to my mother and other residents. I chose this home in part because it was dog-friendly. Her dog was always welcomed and she particularly liked the chef at garden party buffet events."

"Mam was given a lovely room. The staff are lovely. Food is lovely, carers do give Mam a lot of attention when she's feeling anxious when I can't be here. "Across the board, the staff try their best to make my mother comfortable and happy and entertained., Special mention to those who give you their time to fundraise doing raffles and bingo, pie and a peas night, artwork, animals to pet and having her nails done was a first for my mother who is 94 years old."

"My mother was so against going into a home in July 2015 so had already decided she would not like this move at all. I eventually realised she was now needing the 24 hour care that myself and my eldest son could not give her. We realised that she was becoming isolated, lonely and now required the company that only her own age group could give her. She was becoming anxious which was leading to aggression towards us whenever we left her alone for any length of time. I therefore realised she needed the stability of a good caring environment to help her settle down and she could then trust a good care team to help and support her. I felt this would comfort her, allowing her to have the quality of life she now deserves in her twilight years. Within days of her moving into Harton Grange she became a different person from the last few years when we thought we had lost her and did not known who she was. We were given a fabulous welcome from the manager and her team who opened their arms out to my mother and us as her family. My mother was loved by everyone and she glowed with the attention she was given, she was encouraged to participate in the many activities the home provided for their residents. Beautiful surroundings, fantastic garden, many things to do daily including outings on their own transport. My mother absolutely loves her room, the staff, her new-found friends and I now know she is happy when she sometimes has not got time for me when I visit as she is now too busy to talk to me and dismisses me. Haha Thank you Harton Grange I honestly do not think we could have found a home anywhere as good as this one! You are all doing a fantastic job when your residents settle in to their surrounding so quickly and extremely happy! What more could I ask for my mother?"
