Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

It's a Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day is the day before Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), observed in many Christian countries through participating in confession and absolution, the ritual burning of the previous year's Holy Week palms, finalizing one's Lenten sacrifice, as well as eating pancakes and other sweets.

Today we are celebrating Pancake Day at Glebefields Carehome. Our residents had a wonderful day with activities related to Pancake. They made their own pancake and decorated it with cream, chocolates and enjoyed the taste of it.

Pam, Helen, Maira, Frieddel, Bert enjoyed the pancake flipping competition. Pam's son Mike also participated in the pancake flipping competition.

A Home Full of LOVE

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine. Through later folk traditions, it has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

We celebrated Valentine's day with our residents and their loved ones at Glebefields. Weeks hard work came to an end, residents prepared lots of bunting, wreath, paper crafts, Valentine tree, cards and many more interesting valentine's things. It was so happy to see them enjoying the entertainment by Sparky and Sprite who sang classic love songs which were visited down the memory lane for our new resident Robert who thoroughly enjoyed the show.

We are privileged to have couples living with us, hence we took this opportunity to surprise them with valentine's special afternoon tea. Millie and John, Angela and Mick, spent special moments with her husbands whereas David and Christine had a special dine in their room. All of the residents were presented with red rose and a bag of heart shaped chocolates with a poem written by Kay our activities coordinator.

National Pizza Day

Staff and residents have been celebrating National Pizza day with great love and interest. We thought of celebrating the day by making the pizza we love with the choices of the toppings we relish. It was so much fun to watch them try making the Pizza by rolling them and even trying to swing in the air like pro which was delightful to watch. This gave them the taste of a different cuisine and also gave them the opportunity to be involved in making their own meal.

Most of our residents are pizza lovers and it was our residents and our Admin Assistant Dinesh who was Pizzaiolo (Pizza Chef). Dinesh demonstrated how to make pizza and residents followed him. All the residents were so happy to make their own pizza with the toppings they like the most. All the ingredients were donated by Papa Johns, Banbury. Residents loved the final outcome of their hard work and yes the pizza was very tasty and we all enjoyed it.

Bert, a resident at Glebefields said, “I really liked making the pizza for myself!! It was really a fun filled task from rolling the dough to choosing our own favourite toppings.”
