Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Roaring Racetrack

This week the Glebefield's Gentleman's Club had a thrilling time at the race track... albeit a Scalextric version of Silverstone!

Tom, Barry, Robert and Bert loved helping Ricki our Head of Maintenance set up the track and enormous fun racing the cars around the course, it took them right back to their childhood.

The lady spectators Shelia, Moria, Ivy and Christine watched on placing imaginary bets on the winning drivers.

Sunny Strolls

Today residents at Glebefields care home enjoyed a short walk around the home to enjoy the weather and the pictureseque views that we are blessed. They were very happy to see the bright sun.

Marlene, Pam and Friedel were enjoying Dinesh's company during the walk. Dinesh took them round the gardens. We were also happy to see smiles on our residents faces. Marlene stated; "Its always nice to have some fresh air, this is so beautiful!"

London Fashion Week

From the Swinging Sixties, typified by Mary Quant, Ossie Clark and Barbara Hulanicki’s Biba, through to Vivienne Westwood’s punk provocations and Alexander McQueen’s dark and dramatic visions, London has a long legacy of producing extraordinary design but the first London Fashion Week didn’t take place until 1984.

Staff and residents at Glebefields used London Fashion Week as a great excuse to talk about what fashion means to them and to reminisce about different outfits they had worn over the years.  Staff and residents swapped photos of their favourite outfits, talked about clothes they had made themselves or that they had bought or had made for special occasions.

They watched some catwalk shows from London Fashion Weeks past and present and picked out which were their favourite designers and those they weren’t so keen on!  Inspired by the shows and the outfits they’d seen, our residents got to work on designing their own collection. The final garments are so good, many staff expressed an interest in wearing out at the weekend!

General Manager, Nisha Shaji said: “Our residents loved talking about their favourite outfits from over the years, where they got their clothes from, and how much they cost.  Clothes are such an important part of an occasion, it was wonderful to see our residents’ photos from significant events in their lives and to talk about what everyone wore at that point in time.”

Ladies Shopping Trip to M&S

Yesterday our residents enjoyed a day out to Marks and Spencer. Marlene, Pam, Minnie and Ivy loved doing shopping. They were joined by the activity coordinator Kay and our two lovely care staff Marife and Shilpa. Residents tried and bought some dresses.

Marlene and Ivy bought the same tops and wanted to wear them on some special occasions. They said that it was a successful trip. After shopping they went to have coffee with a slice of cake in Marks and Spencer coffee shop.

We were also happy to see smiles on our residents face and enjoyed listening to their stories after they came back from the trip.
