Activities at Four Hills Care Home

Our activity and lifestyle programme is arranged for all our residents to participate in and is updated regularly based on ideas from our residents group during our resident forum. Our Resident of the Day strategy ensures each person receives at least one day each month where the focus is all about them.

We have a monthly concert and to date this is appreciated and enjoyed by most residents. The Four Hills Taverns is open for business every Friday afternoon and is an area where residents and staff socialise, hold pub quizzes and partake in a little refreshment.

The team at Four Hills try hard to meet everyone's needs and encourage all residents and their families to join in the fun.

Life at Four Hills Care Home

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Four Hills care home in Glasgow were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Four Hills head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Exercise demo with the Green Goddess

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Four Hills care home in Glasgow were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

Birthday celebrations

It was double celebrations at Four Hills as resident, Margaret celebrated her 95th   years young on the same day as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.  The birthday girl was our ‘Queen for the day’ as she celebrated in style.

Margaret, said “I had a wonderful day with everyone from the nurses to the housekeeping and maintenance team popping by to wish me a very happy birthday, I felt very special indeed!”

Margaret also enjoyed a special surprise visit with her son who was laden with gifts and cards from family before taking advantage of the early Spring sunshine to join fellow residents in the garden, where a delicious afternoon tea was served, prepared by the homes hospitality team.

Virtual talk with Five Sisters Zoo

As part of Barchester’s Life Enrichment Programme, team members and residents at Four Hills in Glasgow enjoyed an exciting virtual talk, generously hosted by Five Sisters Zoo.

The residents had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the animal life at the zoo and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.

One of the zoo’s many important initiatives is to provide permanent homes for rescued bears, lions and animals that have been part of travelling circuses or other establishments.

Lucy Tomlinson, Resident Experience Manager for Barchester Healthcare, commented: “Our varied life enrichment programme keeps the residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to the residents’ interests and abilities.”

Home say fond farewell after 20-years!

After almost 20-years of continuous service at Four Hills in Glasgow, much-loved domestic, Mary has decided to retire.

Staff and residents at the home sent Mary off in style with champagne and presents to thank her for many years of dedication.  Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Mary and she will be sadly missed. The home are looking forward to Mary popping in from time-to-time to say hello as covid19 restrictions lift.  Good luck for the future Mary!

Easter bonnet competition

Staff and residents at Four Hills in Glasgow were busy scheduling a variety of Easter themed activities for all residents to enjoy during the holiday.

In the UK Easter is one of the major Christian festivals of the year. It is full of customs and celebrations. However, Easter in Britain has its beginnings long before the arrival of Christianity. Many theologians believe Easter itself is named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dawn and spring - Eostre

Over the years, many Easter traditions have taken shape, everything from chocolate bunnies to Easter egg hunts.

To celebrate Easter in style, the home was decorated with Easter eggs, bunnies and colourful banners to bring positivism and holiday spirit. Team members and residents also created a beautiful Ester display to cheer everyone up.
