What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My sister-in-law has been a resident in Barchester Four Hills Care Home since August 2023, the care, attention and support from each and every one of the staff is absolutely 100%. From the minute you walk through the door, you are made to feel so welcome, it's really like one big family, there's never a dull moment, they all have something special to offer not only the residents but family and friends. Keep up the good work guys, you are all doing an absolutely brilliant job, anyone looking for a care home for a loved one, definitely give Four Hills a visit, you won't be disappointed. To the manager, you should be so proud of the running of the care home and every individual staff member who gives you 100% dedication. Thank you for looking after our loved one."

"My disabled sister was admitted after years of care at home. She was very poorly when she arrived but has since made remarkable improvement thanks to all the care she receives and all the homemade food that is prepared. She was very withdrawn but now enjoys all the activities. She is very well looked after by all the dedicated staff. We, as a family, feel she is now in a safe place. Thanks to you all."

"My husband has been in Barchester Four Hills Care Home for seventeen months, the care that he gets from all the staff is amazing. He is so well cared for and although he has Alzheimer's, he gets included in all the activities and they look after me too, I am always included and kept up to date about everything. It's like a wee second home for me and my family."

"My dad was in this care home for 10 months and his care was excellent all the staff are so caring and friendly. No one passes by without saying hello. He had dementia and was difficult at times but was treated with empathy and patience, especially by his carer. He had a lovely room and was well cared for. My dad sadly passed away this month peacefully and was treated with respect. I cannot recommend this care home highly enough."

"My friend finds herself confined to her room, which, to be fair is looked after by the staff. Her conversation can be quite poor and I know that the staff try hard to talk to her, which is a very good point. On my weekly visits, I'm always well-treated and have no problems speaking with the staff."

"We have had a rough time placing our dad into long-term care from the hospital Four Hills gave us time and support explaining everything and my dads settled in and staff and management have treated him well with dignity and respect."

"My brother came to Four Hills on the 31st August 2023, after 8 weeks in hospital. He had lost his appetite and his ability to hold a knife and fork and was rather despondent. However, when I visited him two days later he was sitting up, fully dressed, looking very happy and contented and when I asked staff if he was managing to eat anything, I was told 'everything that's put in front of him'. I couldn't believe it. Needless to say, he has quickly regained weight. As a family, this has made us all extremely relieved to see our brother so settled and content. We are really grateful to all the staff at Four Hills and appreciate everything they do, I find them very friendly, caring and attentive."

"Overall, impressed with the service given by every staff member in the care home. My great aunt has been well looked after and taking part of most of the activities that get carried out. The lovely staff also put on an excellent party for my great aunt's 90th where the entertainment and the food was outstanding! All the staff at the main reception are so welcoming and always have a smile on their faces."

"I am extremely impressed by the range of activities offered by the activities workers. My own mother was in care in a different home and the activities were very mundane and uninteresting. I love how Barchester Four Hills Care Home tries to hang an activity on anything that is happening in the wilder world from International Chocolate Day to the Coronation to the Grand National. Small group activities outside seem perfect for some residents. The idea of having them ice skating blew my mind!"

"My aunt is a resident and arrived a few months ago. In my few visits, I have seen cheery staff and clean rooms. I do not know as yet the full services provided. My aunt gets confused at times, I think she's settling in ok. To be honest, I have marked the ratings I know as I do not know all as yet. I do not know all the facilities as yet. Value for money is not my business as I am only a niece, direct family are dealing with this matter. Activities, I do not know as yet. Keep up the good work."

"My friend and I stayed next door to each other and brought our children up together and it is sad that she can no longer stay in her own house. I was glad to see she was happy and well cared for. Only being here for 1 hour and 15 minutes it was a very welcoming environment. All staff spoke to us and included my friend in introductions. Her room was spotless and there was no odour on the premises. She likes the food and has even been to a French lesson."

"My mum was placed in Four Hills Care Home for palliative care until she passed away, she was angry at being unwell with a significant personality change. The staff group provided a very high level of care, were non-judgemental when she was sad to cooperate and understood that I needed their support too. The building is purpose-built, with spacious corridors and several sitting rooms, but in our situation, it was the quality of care that I considered the most important."

"Mum was transferred to the home from the hospital. From day 1 she was treated with respect and love. She laughed every day with the staff even when she found it hard to talk at the end. Everyone in the home looked after her as if she was their mother/grandmother. Thank you so much. I also felt welcome each time I visited. Again thank you."

"Have great respect for all the staff, admin and management of this facility. Nothing is too much for them. They go above and beyond to make their residents as comfortable, clean and well looked after. "My husband and I attended a New Year party at the home where my mother-in-law resides. There was a duet singing and the home had put on drinks and nibbles. The place was busy and everyone appeared to be really enjoying the party. The activities staff were their wonderful self. Getting those up to dance who could and being inclusive of those that were in wheelchairs. We have been to a few parties now and this was one of the best. Well done to the staff."

"Whilst my friend has only been a resident for a couple of weeks it is clear that the staff are extremely friendly and are always willing to help. Overall the home has a very relaxed environment and I've always been made to feel welcome. The staff also interact with the residents constantly which I find to be very refreshing and positive. Well done on that. All staff are constantly smiling and talking to people. I for one acknowledge that people/employees have concerns and issues outside of the workplace. It shows massive professionalism, dedication and love for the job when employees are always so cheerful and committed, regardless of what's going on in their personal lives. For that, I commend the staff. Thank you."

"I wanted to write this review to say how thankful I am for the care my friend receives at Four Hills Care Home. I have worked in elderly care as a nurse for many years so know what to look for. My friend is always clean-shaven, has trimmed fingernails and most importantly cared for in detail. The head nurse is always available to chat and makes time to see my husband and me when we visit. Well done. Four Hills-4 out of 4!"

"Wonderful staff. I know this job is not always an easy one and it takes patience, perseverance, kindness, tolerance, stamina, strength of character in addition to many other skills and traits - I could not list them all. However on top of all of this friendship and cheerful and generous are attributes shown towards the service users and visitors at all times. Could not speak more highly of the staff at Four Hills."

"My son and I were told about Barchester Four Hills Care Home by a hospice nurse who has a relative in the home after visiting other homes. We went to have a look and were completely blown away by the standard of care and attention by the staff. The home is beautiful and my wife has a smile on her face every time we visit. My family are delighted that Four Hills is the choice we have made to look after my wife."

"Since my mother aged 96 years old, joined Four Hills, Barchester, almost three years ago, myself and two brothers have been very happy with the service they provide. The staff are very friendly and take good care of our mum. She has settled very well and although her sight and hearing is not good she is comfortable with her surroundings. A couple of things could be improved on ie. Quite often, when I telephone, I get through to reception, but no one answers in the unit and her clothes are often lost or mixed up with other rooms. These are points that can be easily rectified. I appreciate there have been staff shortages due to Covid and hopefully things will get back to normal. I would thoroughly recommend Barchester to anyone and have done so in the past."

"My dad was moved to Four Hills Care Home - Lambhill Unit in June. Unfortunately, he was only there for just over a month before he passed away. The staff in the unit were amazing with my dad and all the family and made the last month of his life the best he could have had. They treated him with total dignity, and we can't thank them enough. They made us all feel so welcome and let us sit with him 24 hours a day in his last days and really looked after us all. I would definitely recommend this home."

"Mum has just celebrated her 90th birthday. Staff were all very helpful on the day - carers making sure she was changed and looking good, kitchen staff for organising afternoon tea for family and friends, reception staff for directing guests ensuring guidelines were followed etc. All guests have commented to the family since how welcoming Four Hills is and how impressed they were by the entrance, surroundings, staff etc. Well done, everyone, at Four Hills."

"This care home is fabulous. The staff are wonderful. They go out of their way to provide a home from home environment for the residents. My mum is very well looked after and I never need to worry about her care. They have an entertainment schedule to keep them occupied and often take them out. The surroundings are tastefully decorated to make the resident feel at home. The food is wonderful. My mum had always been very very happy there and has blossomed under their care."

"My mother was admitted to "Four Hills" just over 1 month ago. To date, I have been delighted with the care, attention, and support given by the staff. My mother has dementia, and unfortunately, her condition had deteriorated over the last few years, but since going in to "Four HiIls" she has been happier than she has ever been. The staff can't do enough for her. Throughout her stay, staff have kept me informed of her care, how she has been, etc, etc. This has been done both during my visits and indeed over the phone, on days when I am not able to attend. As you can imagine, this goes some way to giving me peace of mind, and simultaneously, I can see this in my mother's demeanor and in the care provided. To date, the assistance, care, and attention given by the staff, including Admin, Managers, and care staff has been great. I would be delighted if this continues for the remainder of her stay."

"My mother has been in the Maryhill Suite for two years and five months has settled in very well, due in no small part, to the care and professionalism of the staff. Cannot praise them highly enough, from the reception staff through to the medical staff and the carers, particular thanks must go to the charge nurse and the two members of the team who dealt with the Zoom calls throughout lockdown, an absolute lifeline. Unfortunate we cannot name them, we will always be grateful for their efforts, and their positivity in trying times. As a family, we will be forever grateful."

"Eighteen months ago my husband who has vascular dementia, vascular Paekinson's and "brittle" Type 1 diabetes went from many weeks in hospital to stay at Four Hills. Sadness and guilt at leaving him there were soon replaced by complete confidence in every member of staff who have given him the best of nursing and personal care. His complex health problems have challenged even hospital consultants but the whole team at Four HIlls have proved themselves more than capable in dealing with those needs and also with everything that Covid-19 has thrown at them. He is very content, loves his room, loves the food which is all to reassuring for me and the family. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who have been wonderful to us all."

"My mum went into care to Barchester Four Hills Care home on April 1st 2021, obviously there are still a lot of Covid-19 restrictions in place, so my review takes into account the limited experience we have had so far. The public areas and my mum's room always seem to be clean and well kept. We brought up personal effects to make her feel at home and everything is cleaned and disinfected before going into her room. The staff have been very good and have been proactive in keeping me updated with things happening with my mum, even so much as calling to tell me she's been outside or that she's been talking with other residents. We quickly established a good rapport with the staff and the unit manager, particularly from the Lambhill unit. The manager has been fantastic, both at caring for my mum and also helping me become more comfortable accepting my mum's new normal. I expect my scores to be higher as restrictions relax and I can observe my mum getting more use of the facilities and we can visit more regularly."

"I had the most wonderful visit with my mum on Tuesday 16th March, who is in Lamb hill unit, Four Hills. Having not seen my mum for many months, I was feeling apprehensive, as my mum has dementia. But I needn't have worried. The whole visit was made so special by the Lamb hill sister in charge and her always wonderful team. My mum looked so cared for and loved, also happy in her wee world, telling me that this was her home, and she loved it and I could see that she did. I was bouncing with happiness after my visit. Once again my endless thanks to each and every one of you. Forever grateful to you all for the sacrifices you made to care for my mum throughout the pandemic. Look forward to seeing you all next week. THANK YOU."

"I cannot praise the staff at Fourhills enough. The care and attention that they provided my mum allowed her to live comfortably in her own space until she passed rather than constant hospital visits (which was a fortnightly occurrence for the 2-years before she moved into the home). Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we were unable to spend as much time with our Mum as we would have liked - it was a terrible time for us as a family, however, the care my mum received, and also the communication that the staff had with us, did help to ease our worry. The staff at this time not only cared for my mum but took the place of her family, and we will be forever grateful for that."

"I want to thank Four Hills, especially the acting ward sister and the team in Lambhill unit for all they have done for my mum and myself throughout this horrendous time. Thank you for the reassuring phone calls, the cards you helped Mum make to send me, and the photographs that all gave me such peace of mind. No words are enough to describe my gratitude to you all. Every day you risked your own life to be there for my mum and received very little appreciation for the work you all do. Happy New Year to each and every one of you, and I dearly hope to see you in early 2021. You're my heroes. Bless you all."

"My mother has been in the care home for some time now, and while I was apprehensive at first as to how she would settle, I am very happy with how she has been looked after. She has had lots of attention, and when she was able, she always told me how great the food was. As her dementia has worsened, the level of care has increased, and although I haven't been able to see her for a while, I am more than happy and relaxed that she is in good hands."

"After four months in hospital with complex medical needs, and with a heavy heart, I had to arrange permanent residence for my husband in a care home which could provide the necessary full-time nursing as well as personal care to cope with his dementia, Type 1 diabetes and Vascular Parkinsonism. By sheer chance, I heard the name of Four Hills. Good impressions were created even from initial phone calls and, since his admission, he has been looked after with care, compassion, dedication and expertise by every single member of staff. And so have I. This is all the more appreciated and comforting due to the prohibition on and then all the restrictions still placed on care home visiting. With every day a roller coaster of emotions, experience has shown me that I can rely on Four Hills to do whatever they can to keep my husband safe, to act promptly in any emergency and to have his health and well-being at heart. And he loves the food."

"This has been the best move ever for my mother. She is so happy and settled here and I’m happy in the knowledge that she is getting the best of care. She is looking better now than she has in years and I’m more relaxed knowing that I never need to worry about her as she’s in the best hands. The staff are exceptional. Everyone is treated with dignity and individually. Nothing is too much bother for the staff. They are friendly, helpful, very caring and have tons of patience. They have created a fabulous home from home environment where everyone’s needs can be met. The food is top class and they keep the residents busy with games, music, arts and crafts, movie days and other entertainment. Never a dull moment at Four Hills. Their handling of the Covid-19 outbreak has been exemplary. I have a weekly Skype call with my mother which is expertly facilitated by one of the activity staff. Wonderful service and much appreciated by myself and our family. I can’t recommend it enough."

"Our mother was only in Four Hills for a few days, following her discharge from hospital. She was very frail, following many years of Alzheimer's and more recently a stroke and sadly passed away shortly after her arrival. However, we were very happy with the quality of the care she received and could see that she was much happier, more relaxed and much more responsive while she was there. She was made very welcome and the staff put a lot of effort into getting to know her and making her feel at home. They cared for her lovingly, and could not have been kinder. We were very grateful for this, especially in her final hours and also for the support provided to ourselves at this time."

"My aunt was initially admitted in August 2018 to the Firhill unit. She received excellent care from the team leader and his team, we also felt cared for and supported. The thought of a loved one moving into a residential care setting is daunting but in our case, with the help of the staff at Four Hills, the reality was so much better than we ever imagined. My aunt was so settled and content that we sought to make her temporary placement a permanent one. She was transferred to the Lambhill unit in October 2018. The team leader of this unit and her excellent team welcomed her warmly. Her room was lovely, warm and inviting and we enjoyed spending time with her there. The day rooms were a wee bit less fresh, although that didn't seem to bother my aunt. She thoroughly enjoyed the freshly prepared meals and weekly trips to the onsite hairdresser. Sadly, my aunt passed away in hospital in May 2019 after a short illness. We are so very thankful to the team leader and the Lambhill team and will never forget their care and commitment."

"Dad was a resident for 4 months and we as a family are so happy with the care he received, he was treated with dignity and respect by everyone and staff treated him more like family. When we as a family had to spend a week of overnight stays we were looked after just as well as the residents. Four Hills is a very happy place with lots going on for the residents, I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone, thank you so much for caring for dad right to the end of his life."

"Palliative care. Would recommend highly the staff at Four Hills for their care, compassion, very attentive attention to their organisation values. We were made very welcome, nothing was ever a problem and they were always on hand to discuss matters or lend a caring and sympathetic ear. They were superb, very professional and made our journey and that of our mum's, peaceful and comfortable up to the end of her life."

"Since I have been a daily visitor to this home since March 2018, I have been welcomed at the desk when signing in, always with a smiling face, same with all nursing staff, carers and management. There is always a fresh smell when you enter and the rooms are always clean and well aired. There is always some kind of entertainment. All in all, I don't have any complaints. They are always ready to answer any questions I may have always ready to help."

"My mum is always cheerful and well dressed. All members of staff take time to chat and make her laugh. We are kept informed of mum's progress, how much she eats and drinks and if she is taking her medication. I fell she is always treated with dignity and well cared for. All staff and management are approachable and always act professionally."

"My mum has been in Four Hills since January. Her health and general well being has improved greatly, she has company outside lots. Staff are fab and keep you up to date with things and are all so lovely. My mum is so happy there, always keep them occupied with stuff. Her room is nice and clean. I see a great improvement in her. I would highly recommend Four Hills."

"Dad was in Four Hills for almost a month with a terminal illness. Staff worked to make him feel at home and were universally kind. The home was spotlessly clean, warm and well ventilated. Rooms are small, which made it difficult for staff using equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers and toilet equipment. Food was excellent with plenty of choices, served in various locations or residents’ rooms according to their preference. I was not aware of any activities but dad receives a thoughtful gift from Santa. Staff provided excellent care for dad as he deteriorated, protecting him from falls and ensuring he was as comfortable as possible. The carers were always upbeat with a sense of humour, ensuring his dignity was preserved and nothing was a bother. Nurses were open and responsive to my queries and concerns. It was tricky contacting the off-site doctor for permission to alter treatment. Staff ensured I was supplied with tea and meals while sitting with Dad. A well-run home."

"Mum received palliative care in the Firhill Unit from August 2017 until she passed away in November. During her stay, she was treated with nothing but love and kindness. At the slightest sign of any pain or discomfort, Mum was treated quickly and appropriately by the nursing team so that she was able to live out her final weeks in relative comfort. The care staff made sure that Mum was clean and comfortable and also paid attention to her medical needs in addition to their normal duties. All staff treated Mum as an individual, and their warmth and humour made things so much easier to bear. Many of them went ‘above and beyond’ what we would have expected. As a family, we could not have got through Mum’s final days and hours without the support of all the staff. They provided reassurance and comfort, brought us food, gave us hugs and sent us home for rest when we were on our knees. When Mum passed away, she was treated with such dignity - we couldn’t have asked for more."

"Dad's diabetes has been out of control for some months whilst in hospital. Four Hills nursing and care staff have made significant efforts to control his blood sugar by testing his blood up to six times a day adjusting his insulin as required and carefully receiving his food intake. He has other health problems which exacerbate diabetes and they have helped to manage and control his condition while dealing expertly and sympathetically with is other problems."

"The best care home ever... Facilities are great, clean, homely and everything you could need. Food is excellent, always a great menu and great quality. The best factor is the staff, everyone is wonderful. They do a hard job well and nothing is too much bother for them. Emphasis it is providing home from home comforts and it shows. Wonderful place."

"My father was cared for in the Lambhill Unit by wonderful staff who not only looked after him but the whole family. Nothing was a bother and made us feel still very much part of his care. My dad loved the banter with the staff and had a wicked sense of humour which he maintained to the end. In the last few days of my dad's life the staff went about the business with compassion, care, understanding and were very unobtrusive when dealing with such a painful situation for family. Sadly I was unable to be there with my dad at the end, my sisters were, as I live in Australia but never in his time there did the staff make me feel I was a nuisance when I called. The care he received was second to none and I would have no hesitation in recommending Fourhills to anyone looking for a care facility for their loved one. The staff made us feel they treated the residents like their own family, sadly something not every care home does. Some areas looked tired but the care made up for that."

"Our aunt was transferred from Glasgow Royal Infirmary to Four Hills for palliative care and she was very worried about "going into a home". When we visited her on her first day we were very impressed with the ambience and overall condition, appearance and feeling of the home. We cannot overstate the level of personal care and attention ALL of the carers in Firhill section provided to us personally as relatives and visitors, and more importantly the care that our aunt received during her short stay at Four Hills. The knowledge that everyone at Four Hills eased the passing of our beloved aunt made our experience considerably less anxious and more bearable. MANY THANKS TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE FOUR HILLS TEAM."
