Activities at Fountains Care Home

Here we have two of our gentlemen who have a high interest in trains and stations. Off we went to our local station of Dorridge which opened in 1852. Whilst there we adventured into the waiting room, which has been restored to its former glory. At the station we managed to look at the different locomotives that came though looking at their destinations. It was pointed out by one of the gentlemen that the trains were all on time, to which he founds this amusing. Once we had explored the station, we stopped for a warm refreshments and homemade cakes.

On our Olton floor, our resident bakers have been busy with using their own senses to bake rainbow muffins. Our residents showed a high interest, when exploring the different ingredients, this was a great opportunity in which some began to share and reminisce about who they would bake for and what they enjoyed baking. With our muffins in the oven, this was a fantastic time to talk about different flavours, we even voted for our own favourite flavours… yes carrot cake and lemon drizzle were at the top!

Resident’s at Fountains care home in Solihull have chosen to support the local charity group of Saint Vincent’s Parish by buying gifts for local children.

Hazel, from Saint Vincent’s Parish (SVP) came to the home earlier in the year, sharing information about how SVP supports others within the Solihull community. In our resident’s meeting, it was decided we would help assist those who need support. Our residents, their relatives and staff were all very supportive.

Kim Dean, General Manager at Fountains Care Home, said: “Seeing our resident’s become dedicated to support and help others within our community is just amazing. Some resident’s reminisced about their own past lifetimes and were glad to be able to bring some festive cheer to others.”

With our resident’s having such high interests in animals, we gave them a treat with pony therapy. We had the lovely ponies Moomin and Tinkerbell come along from Lollipopponies. Our residents have enjoy the company of the Shetland’s ponies. They bought out a lot of smiles and Aww’s from everyone who encountered them.

“It’s been such a long time since I’ve been able to get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures. Thank you so much for bringing them here for us.” Said Frances, Resident.

Saturday surprise! On this bright afternoon we had the volunteers from Woodrush community hub, come along and perform their special Christmas line dancing. Everyone was thrilled to clap along and showed a high interest in the songs and routines being shown. Afterwards, our resident’s took the time to reminisce their own dance experiences with all.

Resident’s, family and friends at Fountains have been getting into the festive spirits creating their own Christmas wreaths. Residents, enjoyed being able to explore different textures and materials, using their own creative methods, the finishing wreaths were placed upon their doors displayed for all to see.
