Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Happy anniversary!

A couple from Fairview House care home, in Aberdeen have celebrated 66 years of marriage. Jim Downie and Hilda Downie met at the Beach Ballroom at Aberdeen Beach when they were just 18 years old. Jim and Hilda went on to get married just 2 years later at a church in Aberdeen and had their reception at the Marcliff Hotel. They then went on their honeymoon in Edinburgh where they spent most of their nights dancing as it was their favourite thing to do when together.

When we asked Jim what the secret is to a long happy marriage he said ‘Always do the best you can’. Now 66 years later Jim and Hilda are still deeply in love and happier than ever to be together.

Home host Macmillan Coffee Morning

Staff and residents at Fairview House Care Home in Aberdeen held a charity coffee and buttery morning alongside an Afternoon tea and bake sale on 28th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause. The money raised helps everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can.

Visit from Dean Spruce the Magician

This morning we had a magical visit from Dean Spruce the Magician! We had so many residents from all units join together to watch and be part of all the magic.

Everyone had an amazing morning and it was great to see so many of us join in on the performance and laugh along with each other.

Crafts Outside

This afternoon we all got outside to enjoy some arts and crafts in the garden, everyone loved painting, colouring and making sticker posters together.

We also went around the gardens and made sure all our plants were watered to keep them looking fresh and colourful. Our residents are also really enjoying coming together from all units to take part in activities and make new friends.

Tuck shop Trolley

Over the past two days we have all been soaking up the glorious sunshine that we have been having. We have been getting as many residents as we can outside to go on walks and enjoy ice creams together!

We also have now got a tuck shop cart which is filled with delicious sweets and chocolates. Everyone has been loving being able to choose some of their old favourites and reminisce with one another whilst enjoying their sweet bags.

We are going to start taking our tuck shop around the whole home weekly for our residents to enjoy!
