Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

We set off on a trip down Memory Lane to fulfil Michael’s wish to visit Torry, the place where he was born and raised. The journey was planned by Michael's sister, Clare, who stated Michael would be delighted for his wish to go back to Torry to come true. Clare stated that Michael always talked about no 87 Walker Road, where he lived when he was born, also the flat across the road where their aunt stayed.

He loved the shop on the corner (across from where the prison used to be) where he would walk to for his sweets and magazines. He also talks about the Victoria Bridge and the old chain bridge. He moved from Walker Road to 136 Glenbervie Road, then on to 131 Balnagask Road. He loved going to Bay of Nigg for picnics in the summer.

Equipped with this information, we planned the trip on 19th February. Joining him on this special journey was another resident and friend, George, who was equally excited about the adventure. We could see Michael’s face lit up as we drove around Aberdeen and into Torry area. As we crossed Victoria Bridge, Michael pointed with a big smile. “That’s Vicki Bridge!” he said, just like he had always called it when he was younger. With every turn, he pointed out familiar places along the way—places that held so many memories. We travelled up Walker Road, and Michael shared stories of his childhood as we passed by his old home.

Our journey continued along Balnagask Road and down to the new harbour, where Michael gazed at the boats and recalled watching them as a young lad. It was clear that these sights were stirring up a flood of memories for him, and he was enjoying every minute of it. As we made our way back, it was obvious that this trip had meant so much to Michael. He had taken a step back in time, reliving the moments that shaped his early years. It was a truly special and unforgettable journey—a trip that reminded us all of the importance of going back to where it all began.

Puppet Friends

What an incredible day at Fairview! Our residents were delighted by a fantastic visit from The Puppet Gang, featuring special appearances from none other than Charlie Chaplin, Elton John, and Elvis (to name a few)!

There was plenty of singing, dancing, and laughter as everyone got up close and personal with the amazing puppets. It was truly a joy to see so many smiles and hear the sounds of happiness fill the room all afternoon. A big thank you to the Puppet Gang for creating such a magical experience for us all!

Do you

Our lovely Peggy told us that she wished she could go outside and build a snowman! Peggy decided that it was too cold to go outside so we brought some snow inside for her to build a snowman!

Peggy’s face lit up when she saw the snow and immediately started with her snowman. She said it looked like a pug and called it Fuzzy!

Our other residents also enjoyed touching the snow and laughing at our beautiful little Fuzzy!

Dolly Parton Cowboy Day

We had an amazing time celebrating all things country and western with a special nod to the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton! From cowboy hats to line dancing and delicious Southern-inspired food, it was an afternoon full of fun, movement and great music.

Thank you, Cecilia, for teaching us how to line dance! We also celebrated our wonderful Activities Team for the outstanding work they are doing at Fairview! Your dedication, creativity, and hard work bring so much joy, enrichment, and meaningful moments to everyone here at Fairview!

Colleagues treat Residents to panto performance

Residents, relatives and staff from Fairview House were in for a treat with a performance from their own staff members. The staff members performed a Cinderella Pantomime (oh no they didn’t- oh yes, they did!)

Residents of the home were accompanied by relatives and staff from Fairview House as they enjoyed the timeless tale full of magical twists, fun, laughter and adventures.

One resident commented; “it was the best pantomime production I have seen in years, the actors really made me laugh!”
