Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Kerrie Perks

Activities Leader

Hello, My name is Kerrie and I provide the unique life enrichment for residents at Elgar Court.  I moved to Malvern 12 years ago to live with my fiance and we have two tortoises and a snake.  I love to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.  I am very 'outdoorsy' and used to ride horses and compete nationally in athletics, specialising in track and field for Redditch and Bromsgrove athletics club.  In my spare time, I love being in the kitchen and making treats for my family.

An afternoon of keepie-uppie with jokes and tongue twisters

The residents had a real giggle keeping a balloon in the air and doing a forfeit of a joke or a tongue twister if they dropped it the balloon. This game was fabulous for flexibility, coordination, and reaction speeds. Most of all, though, it was great fun! At the end of this fun game, the lovely Alice (103 years young) needed a cuppa and to put her feet up!

A wee dram or two? Whiskey tasting\

As part of our Burns Supper of with traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties served to our residents, we offered a whiskey tasting event to see who could taste the difference between blended and single malt  Whiskies.  Our residents are clearly connoisseurs of the finer things in life (of course!), and correctly identified each whiskey blend correctly!

Merry Christmas

What a wonderful five months our home has seen, welcoming all our new residents.

We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas from all our residents and team at Elgar Court. We look forward to meeting new residents in the new year.

He’s behind you……..Oh no he isn’t!

Panto Time! Residents are making use of our new minibus Mabel and visiting local festive events. Last Friday they went to the Coach House Theatre to watch a fabulous performance of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. It’s heart warming to see how our life enrichment both in and out of Elgar Court is making such a difference to their daily lives. Life doesn’t stop when a loved one moves into a care home. Quite the opposite, life gets better!!!

Ding Dong Merrily on High!

The McLean Handbell Ringers came to our home to bring us even more Christmas cheer at Elgar Court.  Wonderful jingles rang out as residents and staff sang along to the festive melodies Ursula and the team entertained us all with the handbells – and also let us have a go J  Thank you for coming to ring out 2023 and making our morning, we look forward to seeing you again in 2024!

Giving Support to Malvern Special Families

Caring is in our nature and not just for the older people in our homes.

Malvern Special Families are a local charity that provide excellent, safe and fun social opportunities for children with disabilities and special needs, aged 5-18 years.  We were grateful to be able to support this charity and their children this year by sending gift bags of Christmas goodies for a trip out to a Pantomime.

Picture here is the Chief Executive Officer, Gareth Jones.  If you can support this super charity in 2024, please pop into their office for a chat on Church Street in Malvern.  www.malvernspecialfamilies.org.uk
