Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Kerrie Perks

Activities Leader

Hello, My name is Kerrie and I provide the unique life enrichment for residents at Elgar Court.  I moved to Malvern 12 years ago to live with my fiance and we have two tortoises and a snake.  I love to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.  I am very 'outdoorsy' and used to ride horses and compete nationally in athletics, specialising in track and field for Redditch and Bromsgrove athletics club.  In my spare time, I love being in the kitchen and making treats for my family.

A Library for All!

Maureen, Alice and Rosemary are one of our many residents who enjoy their fortnightly trip to one of the cornerstones’ of Malvern, the Library.

Maureen (92 years), is a regular visitor who enjoys choosing her own books and using enjoying the friendly and community atmosphere at the library.

Today we were helped by staff member Sarah who very kindly spent time setting up a new library membership for Rosemary and, looking for large print, and light to hold books for Alice.

Alice has now decided to download the BorrowBox App onto one of our many touchscreen tablets at Elgar Court, so she can read from or listen to one of the many free Ebooks and audio books on this App.   It’s a wonderful resource for people like Alice (103 years ) who just want to make life a little easier for themselves – just like living in our home.

Thank you to the kind and helpful staff at Malvern Library.

Floral delights

Residents of Elgar court, enjoyed a masterclass in flower arranging in the comfort of their own home.  As well as the demonstration, residents actually did their own flower arrangements alongside the floral expert.  These will now decorate our café and reception across our Valentine celebrations, bringing the scent from outside into the home.  Maureen (92), having never been done this before, was delighted with her results of her efforts!

If chocolate be the food of love….

In preparation for Valentines day, our residents enjoyed a morning masterclass of handmade chocolate confections.   The demonstration started with filling the shells of chocolate moulds, and the residents chose the flavours for the fillings.  They all enjoyed taste testing and are looking forward to the finished products on Valentines day at our Valentines concert.

In celebration of the Chinese New Year of the Dragon, our residents enjoyed an exotic menu of Chinese dishes for lunch, and then spent the afternoon making paper dancing dragons. Jenny and Rose had great fun chatting away whist carefully crafting their paper dragons.
